Joey pulls up to the school, and we both get out of the car. I tell Joey that it's ok, he doesn't have to go in; but of course, he ignores me. We walk into the office, and my dad was there panicked about my whereabouts.
I walk in the office, and my dad walks over and hugs me and for a minute, I didn't think he was ever gonna let go. When he does, he reaches behind me and smacks my butt and said "Donna Jo, don't you ever run away and scare me like that." Then, all of a sudden he noticed Joey and hugged and thanked him for finding me and bringing me back. Joey said "No problem. I've always considered her one of my nieces and want her safe. I hate to cause her more trouble, but because I care I want you to know that I did find her smoking. Here's the cigarettes."
Dad "Thank you. We must have you over for dinner sometime very soon." Joey "I would love that."
Dad " How about Friday night?"
Joey "Yes, that works for me, see you then. DJ be good and you're not a screw up, you just used poor judgement. It'll be ok, I love ya girl."
DJ "Thank you uncle Joey. Love ya, see you Friday."
Joey left, and now it was just Dad and me in the office as the school day was over and everyone had left for the day.
DJ "Dad, I'm really sorry. I messed up. I smoked and ran away. I know better than to have done either of those. I've been feeling really stressed out lately, but that's no excuse. I should've come to you or come up with a healthier way to relieve my stress."
Dad "It's ok, honey. I still love you and always will. You'll always be my girl. You will still be punished, but I understand. Why have you been so stressed?"
DJ "I don't know, I just feel overwhelmed. So much to do, but it never seems like there's enough time. Finals are coming up, and I'm worried that I won't do well."
Dad "Sweetheart, you will do great. You are super smart, and I hear nothing but good about you concerning your academics. You are currently getting the highest grades in your class. I'll be proud of you no matter what as long as you are doing your best. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. I will help you. Now let's go home, and we will deal with your punishment there. Also, I think you know how how dangerous smoking is, so I won't make you write that report on the dangers of smoking."
DJ "Thank you sir."
