It was finally the weekend, which also meant the end of ISS and Uncle John's lunchtime spankings.  It's also time for me to take my driving test and get my driver's license.
On the way home from school, we stopped at the car dealership. I showed dad the Kia Sportage that I saw and liked. Dad drove it around a few miles amd looked under the hood. After some talking to the car salesman, dad was able to convince them to lower the price to $9000 since I was paying cash up front. We had Uncle John come and drive dad's car home, so that dad could ride with me while I drove my new car home. We had a quick dinner and did chores and went to bed.
The next morning, we woke up. Dad made eggs bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. I ate an egg and tried to be done, but dad insisted I eat more. When I tried to argue, dad asked if we had to have a deeper discussion.  I gave in and ate some bacon and toast.
We then went to take my driving test, which I passed. We went and got some icecream to celebrate. Dad told me that there were some rules now that I had my license that we had to discuss.
1. He had to know where I was going at all times, and I had to text or call him every time I reached my destination.

2. No drinking and driving,  not that I was allowed to drink.

3. If I got a ticket, I would  be grounded from driving for an undetermined amount of time.

4. I must let him know if anyone else will be in the car.

5. I am responsible for gas, oil changes, and all maintenance for the car, but he will help me with insurance unless I get a ticket

I agreed to the rules. They seemed easy and reasonable enough. I also already knew the rules from when my sister got her license.

DJ "Dad, I was wanting to ask your permission to get a job at Dairy Queen."
Dad " I don't know, you're very active with sports, and I really don't want you overextending yourself."
DJ "They would work around my sports schedule and it would be maybe 10 hours a week. Maybe more if given prior approval. I could really use the money to help pay for gas and stuff."
Dad "What about helping your grandparents? They've been paying you for taking care of the livestock and helping around the farm."
DJ " I would still help them when I had the time."
Dad " Let me think about it. I want to also talk to the manager."
DJ " Yes, sir."
