Joey had arrived while I was upstairs changing my outfit. I put on some khakis and a nice red dress shirt that did not show much. It was a short sleeve shirt, and I even put an undershirt on. There was no way that my dad would disapprove... or so I hope. My dad had invited Joey in and they were sitting in the living room talking. I was nervous because I was unsure of what they were talking about. As I walked in, my dad was asking Joey what his interests were. I knew most of these answers as we had talked about them before. Joey was interested in sports of all kind, reading, hanging out with friends (and his girlfriend), and he likes to ride horses (though he doesn't get much of a chance because he doesn't have any horses of his own). I came in and hugged Joey and sat down next to him. Since dad was in the room, I didn't sit too close to Joey in fear of how dad would react. There was a long awkward silence. Of course, it hurt for me to sit since I had just been paddled not even an hour before.
When dad had asked me to set the table in the dining room, I was relieved. I was relieved because it gave me an excuse to get up and to get out of that awkwardly silent room. I could tell that my dad wanted to tell Joey something that he did not want me to hear. It only took me five minutes to set the table. When I came back into the living room to announce that the table was made and all of the food was on the table, dad and Joey seemed to be having a very serious conversation. I later found out that my dad had said that he did not care if he was his principal, if he hurt me he would kick his butt.
We sat down to dinner, which was pot roast with potatoes and carrots and some dinner rolls. Dad had it cooking in the crock pot all day while he was at work and I was at the school (obviously, the same place). He made some brownies to eat with ice cream for dessert once we got home. I was really good and the conversation was polite and pleasant. As we were finishing dinner, dad had said that he had a lot of work to get done so he was trusting us to hang out alone but not in my room. I had asked dad if I could show Joey the horses and if we could go on a short ride. Dad said yes but that it was to be a very short ride around the pasture and then we were to come back inside. He reiterated that were not to go on any trails. Dad never did like me riding my horse after dark, especially in the woods on the trails.
We cleaned up the dishes and put the leftovers away, and I went and changed my shirt and put on my boots. Joey and I then headed to the barn, while my dad went to the barn to do some work.
