Daichi went back to his place after staying a night and a day, now it was Kenma all alone again. He didn't want to admit it, but having someone felt good. He didn't wanna admit one more thing, and that was, he wanted to try out that diary.

He constantly felt as if doing that meant cheating on Hinata whom he wasn't even dating anymore. He had to do it some time or the other. There was no backing away from that thing. So he picked up the diary which was shoved in a corner of his bookshelf, opened it to the latest page, and kept staring at it for some good 10 minutes.

And finally, "it wasn't my birthday", he wrote in it. He saw it instantly turning green, triggering that day back then, but he forced that thought out of his mind FOR ONCE..!!

It turned red in the next few seconds.

"doesn't this guy have anything better to do?? Seems like he always just sits with his diary open", Kenma thought with a sense of disgust.

But the reality was, Kuroo's diary fell off the nightstand when he was trying to find the light switch to turn it off, and it got open.

"oh uh, okay. It wasn't their birthday?? T-that's embarrassing. I shouldn't have listened to Kageyama", Kuroo thought to himself.

"Oh, I'm sorry...", the text appeared in Kenma's diary. "Their handwriting looks like that of a 6th class student", Kenma giggled.

"it's all right, I've been told that this is how it usually is. People write in this shit on their birthdays", he wrote back.

"Well yeah, normally. So, when is your birthday?", the other person asked.

"ugh questions", Kenma loathed questions.

"16th October", he answered.

"oh... that's long gone. May I ask why didn't you write earlier??"

"because I didn't want to"

Kuroo frowned at the cold arrogant answer, but he wasn't from the people who would easily get mad.

"That's a good answer. I figured it out myself", Kuroo wanted the conversation to keep going.

"great, I guess??"

But clearly, the other person wasn't willing to. "Why did they even write in the first place if they don't wanna talk properly?", he thought to himself.

"you not writing almost made me believe that I'd be dying single, haha", Kuroo made a futile attempt to create some humor.

"hmm, I didn't write because of my issues", yet the reply was pretty dry.

"wanna talk about it?"

"It's already past midnight, and I don't even know you. So we should probably go to sleep. Don't try to get indulged", appeared in Kuroo's diary.

Kuroo felt like this was enough of a hit and if he went any further, he'd be losing his self-respect. So he let it slide this time.

"ouch, cold. Okay. Felt good to know you aren't a 4 year old. Good night.", he replied. Still keeping his calm.

"Good night"

"It wasn't that bad

"It wasn't that bad. I do think I could've been a little softer", Kenma thought while flopping on his bed.

"That was... better than having no conversation at all, I guess??", Kuroo tried to make some sense out of it. Now he knew that his soulmate was real, alive, and existing.

Kenma wasn't very sure how he felt. Yes, he felt good talking to someone, even if it wasn't for very long. But he didn't know if he wanted to talk to this person any time soon again. He was curious though... he wanted to know more about this person, who was the reason he had to separate from Hinata.

It suddenly struck him that he didn't even ask what his gender was. So he opened his diary again, half reluctantly, and wrote in it.

"Hey uh, I'm sorry... but what's your gender?", while hoping for it to be a guy.

"oh yeah haha, why is everything so embarrassing with you... I'm a guy btw. What about you??", that reply was a huge relief.

"That's a relief. Same here"

"I've never been with a boy before. I've not been with anyone for that matter", Kuroo replied

"you're still not *being* with me", the text read in Kuroo's diary, and he instantly regretted saying anything.

"Oh yeah yeah, totally. Have you been with anyone before?", he wrote back.

"Why the hell am I even trying to talk? Ugh..!!", he thought while slamming his hand on his forehead.

"I told you, not to get ahead of yourself. Good night"

"Okay boss..!! Good night", and Kuroo shut his diary close.

A little smile crept on Kenma's face. It felt good. He was still sad, sure, that wasn't to be mistaken. But it felt oddly satisfying.
