He wanted to touch her. Heal her.
But he could only heal flesh wounds.
If only...
She looked closed off again.
"I'll go speak to the boy. I won't do anything rash this time. I promise." he said softly.
She didn't say anything.
He only saw the brief movement of her head as she nodded.
She looked down, a feeling of numbness, filling her up.
She didn't feel anything at the moment.
But there was still an inexplicable weight in her chest.
She closed her eyes and shook her head.
Now was not the time to succumb to darkness.
She had a job to do.
She would do it. Finish it.
And then...she could be alone again.
In peace, in pain.
Maybe she would put an end to things this time.
It wasn't the first time a thought like that had passed through her mind.
She shook it off.
Her feet dragged her towards the car.
Ares was explaining everything to James calmly and he seemed to understand and somehow accept this truth as he showed him some evidence.
She caught herself smiling.
At least that seemed to work.
Ares caught her gaze and smiled back.
She entered the car and both men turned to look at her.
"So," she stared. "Where are we going, boys?" she asked with a soft smile.
Jamess eyes widened at her gentle expression.
"Okay...I'm getting scared...Did something happen between you two? Did he press a button or something to turn you so sweet and mellow?" James asked, looking at her suspiciously.
Tal rolled her eyes.
" Do you actually want me to hurt you?" she asked glaring daggers at him.
Ares smirked.
James considered it.
" Would it be the good kind or... "he trailed off as both of them glared at him.
" I'm always talking about the bad kind. Especially when you are concerned. " she answered.
" Aww. Stop it. I know you like me. You did defend me against the god of war after all. "he said smugly.
She rolled her eyes and shrugged.
" Next time I'll let him kill you. I promise."she said with a fake smile.
Jamess eyes widened.
" Wait! Um.. I..I didn't mean it that way..."he stuttered.
Ares tried to hide his smile.
" No talking or I'll cut off your tongue. The prophecy says nothing about the need of your speech. " she warned.
By the look in her eyes, he knew she was serious and quickly swallowed his tongue.
She started the engine and Ares smiled proudly at her.
"You too. Eyes on the road." she warned Ares.
