She found a river nearby and caught some fish.
She was surprised to find the cabin looking decent.
A fire burning.
The smell of cinnamon filling the room.
It looked quite cozy and beautiful, cleaned up.
"The huntress returns." James cooed with a big grin.
She smirked and placed the fish on the clean counter.
"Where did you find cinnamon? " she asked looking at two boiled sticks of it.
James smiled.
"They always keep them next to the salt." he said gesturing towards the cabinet.
"I boiled it like my grandma taught me. It get rids of all the bad smell." he said proudly.
She nodded.
"You did good." she said.
James's eyes widened.
"Was that a compliment?" he asked, shocked.
Tal rolled her eyes and started washing the fish.
"Don't get used to it." she said sternly.
James smiled.
"Whatever you say..." he sang and went to start the fire.
Ares soon came down, all sweaty and dirty, wiping on his forehead.
"Everything's ready upstairs. I found some clean sheets and made the beds...I also sorted the mess up there..."he trailed off when he saw Tal, looking at him with an amused expression.
" Who knew that the God of War...could be so good with housework... "she mocked and he rolled his eyes.
" I'm good at everything. "he said smugly.
James stifled a laugh.
Ares glared at him.
Tal turned to look at him confused.
" What? "she asked, filled with curiosity.
" He didn't seem too keen on taking down those cockroaches. "he said with a laugh.
Ares rolled his eyes.
" I told you not to say anything about that! "he said to James behind his teeth...
Tal laughed.
" It's okay,Ares. We've all got weaknesses. Fears. "she said in a sweet voice and Ares glared at her.
"I am not afraid of anything!" he said angrily.
Tal smiled and lightly patted on his cheek.
"Sure you're not."she mocked.
Ares rolled his eyes.
" I'll go wash myself. "he said, irritated.
Tal smiled after him and continued to prepare the fish.
Hours later they had finished eating and were sitting on the couch watching the fire crackle.
Tal was sitting between them, Ares on her right, James on her left.
They all seemed lost in thought, but most of all Tal looked tired.
Ares felt her cold, wet hair hit his neck before realizing she had fallen asleep.
She had showered after they ate, James too after her.
Ares and James looked at each other.
James lifted her legs so that they sat on his lap and put a blanket above them.
Both men made themselves comfortable.
Ares couldn't help but stroke her hair, as her chest rose and fell softly.
James looked at her with a small, sad smile.
"She always tries to be strong." he said.
Ares looked at him with a frown.
"You know...she never slept when we were on the run. She waited for me to sleep and then stayed by the window.
She always puts others first."he murmured, softy patting her legs.Ares frowned more at the boy.
"She...is quite magnificent." Ares agreed.
James nodded, looking at her face.
Ares licked his lips and looked down at her and then back at James.
"Do you like her?" he asked James.
James's eyes widened.
"What? No! She's not my type...like at all." he said, trying not to laugh.
Ares frowned.
"Not...your..type?"he asked confused.
James sighed.
" Well...for starters...she's a woman..."he said pointedly.
Ares nodded in understanding.
" She just...reminds me of my older sister...she practically raised me...and protected us both...she died a long time ago...but..."James trailed off and shrugged.
Ares looked at him sadly.
" I'm sorry for your loss. "he said quietly.
James nodded and then smiled.
" Well...since the beds are all made up. I'll go lie in one. Leave you two alone. " he whispered.
Ares smiled and nodded.
James gently lifted her legs off him and slipped away before heading upstairs.
Ares pulled her closer to him and covered them both with the blanket.
She nestled further into his embrace.
He smiled and placed a kiss on the top of her head.
"Mhm...rub my back..slave.."she murmured and his eyes widened before a laughter escaped him.
"I thought you were sleeping." he whispered.
"I couldn't, cause of all the sentimental crap you were discussing." she grunted.
He laughed and started rubbing her back.
She almost purred under his caress.
"He said he sees you like an older sister." he whispered to her.
She nodded in his chest.
"I know. It was quite clear from the start that he needed my guidance. He kept acting like an annoying little brother too...so.."she said making him laugh.
She felt the rumble of his chest and lifted her head to look at him.
He looked at her through the smile in his eyes.
" You always seem to know everything. ". he said softly.
She raised her eyebrows at him.
" Of course I do. I have to, with you two idiots."she said smugly.
He narrowed his eyes at her.
" Call me an idiot one more time. I dare you. "he said, threateningly.
She smiled, all sleep gone from her eyes.
" Idiot. "she said with a sly smile.
" Oh...you're getting punished..."he said with a huge grin on his face.
She grinned back.
" Oooh I'm sooo scaared. "she faked a tremble and he raised his eyebrows at her.
"Gods...you're annoying." he murmured.
She smirked.
"You love it." she stated, giving him a peck on the lips.
He smiled in the kiss and threaded his fingers through her hair to deepen it.
"You know I do."
