Oikawa woke up, feeling better than ever. His face didn't have dried tears on it and he slept like a baby. He hadn't set an alarm, so he woke up naturally. Reaching over to grab his phone, he watched as the screen lit up; the time being 12:09 pm. He continued to lie in bed, scrolling through different social media's. He knew this wasn't the best way to spend his morning, but he never really made an effort to change his habits. After scrolling through Instagram, opening some Snaps and going through Twitter, he sat up, tilting his head to the side, stretching. He slowly got up and out of the surprisingly comfortable and clean bed Iwaizumi had in his guest room and looked at himself in the full-body mirror. He realized he had slept in his clothes. Fuck. Oh well. His hair was a mess, too and he still had eyebags, though they were lessened. He quietly tiptoed out of the room, not knowing if Iwaizumi was up yet and went into the living room, then the kitchen, bathroom and down the hallway, determining that no; Iwaizumi was not yet up. Slowly, he tiptoed back into the living room, sitting down on Iwaizumi's big, comfortable couch. He didn't want to invade too much- even if Iwaizumi was his best friend -so he sat, feet planted on the ground and back barely touching the back of the couch. He was just scrolling through his phone again, bored out of his mind. He went on TikTok for a bit, but if anything that just made him feel worse about himself and he again scrolled through social media, but there wasn't anything new. Sighing, he slumped down on Iwaizumi's couch. God, this sucks. At least I'm not in Argentina experiencing this. He truly was happy to be in Miyagi again, especially in Iwaizumi's house. It had been so long since he had last seen his best friend and his best friend was- I mean, his best friend. Iwaizumi was Oikawa's favourite person to be around. Though he didn't show it, Oikawa was a highly irritable person and most- if not all - people got annoying to him after a while, but Iwaizumi never got annoying; even though they were practically attached at the hip until Oikawa moved to Argentina, and even then they texted daily, but Oikawa always felt a comfort around Iwaizumi. Even if he was calling him shitty or punching him. He was also happy to see Makki and Matsun again; his other two very close friends. They all met in high school, and became close because of volleyball. If it weren't for volleyball, they probably wouldn't have met, so Oikawa was glad for their shared interest. Makki and Matsun have been dating since the third year of high school, and it was obvious they both had feelings for each other, even before Makki confessed to Matsun. No one in the Aoba Johsai team was surprised when they said they were dating. Thinking about the team got Oikawa thinking about volleyball again. Quickly, his eyes welled up with tears. He tried to wipe them away, but despite his best efforts, those tears turned into sobs. God, I really am a mess, aren't I? Oikawa ended up being able to choke back his sobs after a couple of minutes, and he went back to scrolling on his phone.
About 20 minutes later, the door to Iwaizumi's room opened, revealing a tired and disheveled Iwaizumi, also still in his clothes from the day before. This made Oikawa crack a small smile. "Morning," Oikawa said, his smile widening seeing Iwaizumi. Iwaizumi seemed to be startled by Oikawa, as he flinched slightly. "Yeah, morning," Iwaizumi said. He walked down the hallway that had a perfect view to the couch, and vice-versa. He then walked past Oikawa into the kitchen that was small, but tidy. He really does have his life together. More than me, to say the least. "Have you eaten yet?" Iwaizumi asked, looking back at Oikawa. Oikawa turned to face him, "uh-no, not yet." Iwaizumi just nodded and turned on the stove, grabbing two pans from the counter below him, eggs and bacon. "You hungry?" He asked, not facing Oikawa. "Uh-yeah, yeah. Thanks," Oikawa replied. "No need to be so nervous, what's mine is yours. I mean, you assumed that yourself back in high school. I don't think I've ever gotten those eight hoodies back, not to mention the amount of food you've stolen straight off my plate," joked Iwaizumi. Oikawa laughed. "Yeah, I think I still have most of those hoodies, actually. And... You kept count?" Iwaizumi looked at Oikawa and smirked, "yeah, and you better still have my favourite hoodie. I'm still mad over that one." Oikawa playfully smirked, too, "oh? Actually, now that I think about it I gave that one to donations." Iwaizumi side glared at Oikawa. Oikawa's smirk just grew. "Yeah, actually thinking about it, I lost that limited edition alien documentary that you gave me to borrow, so sorry," Iwaizumi snapped back, smirk also growing as Oikawa glared at him. "You... what? That was signed, this better be a joke," Oikawa said, still glaring. "Sorry," Iwaizumi said, shrugging. Oikawa got up and ran into Iwaizumi's bedroom, going through all his things. If it was still there, it wouldn't be hard for Oikawa to find, as Iwaizumi's room- as well as the rest of his house -was very clean. Sure enough, Oikawa found the DVD and playfully scowled, walking back down the hallway to Iwaizumi. "You found it! You're a great looker, Tooru," Iwaizumi said playfully. "Don't call me by my first name after giving me a heart attack!" Oikawa said dramatically, clutching at his chest. "Oh? Shall I call an ambulance, then?" Iwaizumi asked. "Yes, I'm going to die from your tomfoolery," Oikawa remarked, still very dramatically. It reminded Iwaizumi of a British princess. "Ah, I see. Well, I think I'd rather eat first, clean up, then deal with all that hassle," Iwaizumi said, walking over to the couch, placing two plates of beautifully cooked bacon and eggs on the coffee table. "Actually, I feel as though just hiding your body would be less of a hassle. Afterall, Makki and Matsun would be doing most of the work, they'd be more than happy to help me," Iwaizumi stated. Oikawa clutched at his chest again, "you wound me, Hajime, you wound me." They both chuckled a bit as Oikawa sat back down next to Iwaizumi and they said their thanks before eating. Iwaizumi scarfed down his food, like he always did, but Oikawa just ate it slowly. They sat in silence, but a comfortable one. It was often like that when they were eating. Once both were done, Iwaizumi grabbed both of their plates, bringing them to the sink and rolling up his sleeves to wash the dishes. "Oi, I can do them," Oikawa said. "Nah, you're good," Iwaizumi said, not looking at Oikawa and just turning on the sink. "But, now I'll feel bad! You cooked for me, you're letting me stay here, it's the least I can do!" Oikawa said, a little loud. "Nope." "Please." "Never thought I'd hear you begging to do a chore." "Please," Oikawa said with an elongated E. Iwaizumi roughly hurled a hand towel at Oikawa, "no, nei, non, no in another language. That's final." Iwaizumi said. "Oh come on, out of all the languages you forgot Japanese; our native language? What is wrong with you?" Oikawa joked. "否, that good?" Iwaizumi says, glaring at Oikawa. "Yes, yes, now are we seeing Makki and Matsun today?" Oikawa asks, crossing his arms playfully. "Oh, yeah. We're going to the café next to that dog park, you remember it?" Iwaizumi asks, starting on the dishes. "Ah, yeah I do. When?" "Eh, they said at like 2-ish," Iwaizumi says passively. Oikawa nods and checks the time on his phone. "It's 1:48, we should probably get ready, don'tcha think?" Oikawa said. "Shit, I didn't realize it was this late, yeah. Go get dressed," Iwaizumi said, speeding up his dishwashing. "Got it, mom," Oikawa says. Iwaizumi throws another glare his way as Oikawa gets up and walks into the guest bedroom, starting to get ready.
Them talking and joking like that brought Oikawa back, back to when they were in high school. He had missed this. So much. Now that they were back at it, that comforting feeling Oikawa got around Iwaizumi heightened and butterflies in his stomach were rising. Oikawa smiled. I really, really missed this. Oikawa got dressed and went into the bathroom to finish the rest of his routine. Once done, he checked his phone and saw the time to be 1:57pm. Oikawa left the bathroom to see Iwaizumi standing in front of his apartment door, shoes already on. Oikawa walked up, put his shoes on too, and grabbed his jacket. "I wonder what Maki and Matsun will be like today," Iwaizumi said, smiling slightly. "Ah, yes. The spontaneous two. I don't think anyone but themselves will ever find them predictable," Oikawa joked. "They're the only two who can understand each other, they're literal soulmates," Iwaizumi stated. "You can say that again," Oikawa laughed. Once Oikawa was done putting on his shoes, they left the apartment, got in Iwaizumi's car and drove to the cafe.
In the end they only ended up being seven minutes late, and unsurprisingly Maki and Matsun weren't there yet. Oikawa and Iwaizumi got a booth seat, one that could seat four people and sat next to each other, waiting for Maki and Matsun. Finally, at 2:34, they showed. "Ohoho! Hey, lovebirds, what took you so long?" Oikawa said, in a sarcastically snarky manner. "We got lost due to someone," Matsun said, staring at Maki intently. "It's not my fault the GPS wasn't working!" Maki snapped back at Matsun, a sly grin spreading across both their faces. "You're the one who typed in the wrong address!" "You didn't explain it well enough!" "I literally said the address and you typed it in wrong!" "Whatever you say Matsukawa." "Ohoho, full name now, are we Hanamaki?" "Don't give me that shit Issei." "Ah, I see, now it's Issei, Takahiro." They both had shit eating grins spread across their faces, Maki was looking away from the other, while Matsun was still glaring down at Maki. "Ugh, whatever," Maki said, grabbing the menu that sat out in front of him, grinning at Matsun. Soon after, Matsun picked up the menu as well, followed by Iwaizumi, then Oikawa. After placing their orders for drinks, Maki and Matsun looked at Oikawa intently, "you look.... Better than expected.." Maki says quietly. Matsun just nods. "Yeah, honestly, I probably wouldn't have survived if I didn't come here, but Iwa-Chan has been a great help," Oikawa replies easily, glancing at Iwaizumi when he mentions him. "Ah, I mean yes, he is your boyfriend, afterall," Maki says, sharing a cheeky grin with the now flustered messes in front of him. "Still on that shit Maki?" Iwaizumi says, glaring slightly at him. "Mhm, mhm, mhm. I will be until you finally get married. Y'all go on to say we're soulmates, then look at each other and get as dense as rocks!" Maki says, still smiling. Matsun nods, "if one of you doesn't confess soon, we're gonna have to play matchmaker like you did with us." Maki and Matsun had always wanted Oikawa and Iwaizumi together, since first year high school. They always said "you belong with each other!" or "oh my God, just kiss-kiss-fall-in-love already!" They even made a ship name, "oh, look Hiro, IwaOi are flirting with each other again!" It became an inside joke, but Maki and Matsun were serious about it. "We're just friends. You hear that? Platonic. P-L-A-T-O-N-I-C," Iwaizumi says, mocking Maki and speaking to him like you would a child. When Iwaizumi said that, Oikawa felt something break inside of him. It hurt. Little did Oikawa know, Iwaizumi felt the same hurt.
It was the end of the day, Maki and Matsun now separating from Iwaizumi and Oikawa. After the cafe, they went to the park and spent the rest of the day there. Oikawa and Iwaizumi were now in the car, driving home. "They really are still on that 'IwaOi' shit," Iwaizumi says, scowling. Oikawa just giggles, "Yeah, yeah. I don't expect any less from them." The rest of the drive was silent, until Oikawa realized Iwaizumi drove past his apartment and was still going. "Am I getting kidnapped? Are you kidnapping me, Iwa-Chan?" Oikawa asked, looking at Iwaizumi with fake wide eyes. "Yes, for sure," Iwaizumi said, rolling his eyes. "Where are we going?" Oikawa asked. The road they were taking was familiar, but Oikawa still had no idea what was going on, until suddenly, Iwaizumi stopped along the side of the road. Then, looking out the window, Oikawa realized where they were.
