It was the next day. They had a nice night together, everything was peaceful. Oikawa wished everyday could be like that, and it could... except for the fact that Oikawa still had a lot more problems. Iwaizumi was completely okay with Oikawa staying at his house payment free, he had gone through a lot and he wanted to support his best friend any way he could, but that wasn't the problem. Last night, Oikawa and Iwaizumi had texted Oikawa's parents and made plans with them for today, and it wasn't like he could just back out now. So, as he got in the passenger seat of Iwaizumi's car, shaking, he silently wished everything would be okay. That his parents wouldn't scold him. His parents meant a lot to him, and Oikawa was angry. Angry at the world, and angry at volleyball. The wrong move by them would definitely cause him to snap, and he was terrified of what would happen if he did. He had always cared a lot about what others thought of him. Especially those close to him; including his parents. Still he tried to keep it together and get this over with. It needed to happen sooner than later. Iwaizumi placed a hand on Oikawa's shaking one, partly to stop the trembling, partly to comfort him. "I'll be there with you. I can do the speaking if that will make you feel better?" Iwaizumi said. God, I think I just fell in love with you again. "It's okay, Hajime. I should be the one to say it." Oikawa replied, attempting to steady his shaky voice. Iwaizumi just nodded and started the car. The car ride was silent, but it was nice. It gave Oikawa time to think. Time to plan out how exactly he'll tell his parents. When they pulled up in front of Oikawa's childhood home, he gave a pitiful smile to the building. It brought back so many memories of his parents, childhood friends, Iwaizumi. It also brought up memories of volleyball, but he squashed them as soon as they came up. He wasn't ready to face the past, he just wanted to focus on the future. And part of that future was telling his parents about his knee. He looked down at his knee in a way similar to disgust. He shook his head, looked up and his gaze drifted over to Iwaizumi. "Ready?" Iwaizumi asked. Oikawa nodded and they opened their respective doors, shut them and they both took a deep breath anticipating whatever was about to happen.
He knocked on the door. He wasn't any less nervous, but he felt a little more prepared. They waited at the door for a second, before it opened revealing his mother. She immediately pulled Tooru into a hug. "It's been so long, honey! You need to visit more often." Her gaze shifted over to Iwaizumi. "Oh, hello Hajime! It's been a bit too. Looking sharp as always!" She laughed a bit. She was always a complimenter so this was normal for both Tooru and Iwaizumi. "Thank you, Auntie. How've you been?" Iwaizumi asked, bowing. "Oh, skip the formalities, Hajime. You're basically my second son. Come in, come in," she said, gesturing inside the house. The two boys stepped inside after taking their shoes off and sat down at the dining table along with Oikawa's mother and father. "Tooru, it's been a while! And- ah Hajime! Nice to see you too," Oikawa's father said with a smile that crinkled his eyes. Iwaizumi sat down and replied easily to him, while Oikawa sat down solemnly. "Tooru, what's wrong?" Oikawa's mother said. No doubt about it, Oikawa was a mother's boy and he and his mother had a very close relationship. "I-- I need to tell you something. You too dad." Oikawa said, with as minimal hesitation as he could muster. Iwaizumi looked over at him, giving him a look of approval as Oikawa continued, "I had another knee injury." Oikawa's dad sighed and his mom gave him an apologetic look, "oh, Tooru. I know it's hard not being able to play for a while, but you'll be back to perfect shape in a few-" "No." Oikawa cut her off. She tilted her head in confusion and opened her mouth to say something before Oikawa quickly said, "I can't play anymore. I busted my knee and I can never play volleyball again. I quit the team." He said it bluntly, like a passing thing, but in reality it was life-changing. Both Oikawa's mom's and dad's eyes widened. "Are- are you sure, honey?" His mom asked. "Yes." His mom's eyes started to tear up and his dad left the table. "I should go, mom, dad. I love you." He said as he started to rise from the table. And with that, he and Iwaizumi left the house. Iwaizumi muttered a small goodbye as they left, following Oikawa and not saying a word to him. They got back in the car, and just sat for a second. Then, Oikawa burst into tears and got the aux cord out. He blasted his playlist as loud as possible as he motioned for Iwaizumi to start driving. He complies as Oikawa scream-sings his music while sobbing hysterically and laughing. Despite his tears and the guilt of leaving his parents hanging like that, he felt pure bliss. A weight had risen from his shoulders, and even if it was small compared to the utter amount of problems and insecurities he'd built up, it still felt amazing. It was easier for Oikawa to breathe. He looked at Iwaizumi with teary eyes, who was slightly laughing at his best friend's antics. They gave each other a look as the chorus of the song that was playing hit. Together, they started reciting the lyrics loudly, and it was amazing. Everyday he spent with Iwaizumi was a better memory than the last, and that was the power Hajime Iwaizumi held over him. But, Oikawa trusted him with that power. Oikawa stopped thinking and just sang with Iwaizumi with pure adoration in his eyes.
"Put your hand in mine,
You know that I want to be with you all the time.
You know that I won't stop until I make you mine,
Until I make you mine."
'That chorus really describes my feelings, doesn't it?' He chuckled at that thought. Yeah, it really did.
