Chapter 12
"This is a special breaking report out of Washington. Good evening, I am Janice Stillwell for CNN. We have just gotten word that the Vice President Lewis Little, may have been in a fatal accident tonight. It has been confirmed that his driver, Doug English, 35, was killed on impact. It is unclear at the moment the full extent of the Vice President's injuries. Please stay tuned, we will provide up to date information as we receive it."
__"Mr. President," the guard saluted as the President rushed by him to get into the room where Vice President Lewis Little was. His personal guard, Jakov was right behind him, but President Lukas didn't even realize it. He was focused on the broken body of his friend of the last thirty years. He was hooked to so many machines. Jakob looked about the room and walked to the window to look outside. He was constantly looking for ways out of a room, even if the President wasn't with him, it was like breathing; it was so ingrained that he didn't even have to think about anymore.
Satisfied with the room and the possible way out through the window, since they were on the ground floor, Jakov pulled out his phone. He would be retiring as soon as the President left office and planned to write a book at his hero, President Lukas. So, Jakov was trying to incognito put snippets of videos of the President together for him to write a book about the President later. Jakov had never met a finer man, and he wanted to tell the President's story from an inside prospective using videos and pictures obtained from intimate moments like these.
Mr. Little stirred, "You came, thank you," he wheezed. "It was a set-up, Brian. They didn't expect me to live long enough for me to warn you." President Lukas came closer and took the hand barely exposed by the cover. Jakov focused in on their hands touching. "They know about the bunker, Brian." Lewis grabbed the President's hand firmly and pulled him closer.
Several things happened all at once. Lewis Little, the Vice President of the United States of America, said, "Because I told them," with a laugh as he tried to plunge a syringe fill of something into President Lukas' arm. Jakov, who saw the needle coming out from under the blanket a second or two before it could be fully be jabbed into the President's arm, was able to break Little's hold and keep the fluid, at least all of it, from being pumped into the President. Jakob karate chopped Little in the throat, to keep him from yelling for help and then threw a chair at the window. The President hadn't even had time to react and was being pushed out the window by Jakov.
In such a state of shock, he didn't know what to do, the President sat stupidly on the ground until Jakov threw him over his shoulder and got him to the vehicle Jakob drove him there in. They had stupidly left the security teams behind, standing guard outside the hospital room, in their haste to get to the car. It wasn't far from the White House. No one knew they were leaving. It seemed harmless at the time but now, Jakov was sure it was the stupidest mistake he had ever made in his life. He didn't know who to trust at the moment, but he made a phone call. For just a moment, Jakov wondered, with the smashing of the window, why didn't the rest of the security detail come in to investigate? Were they all in on it?
Chapter 13
"Ditch the car, you idiot," David yelled into his phone. They had arrived at the hospital and Lyzza had gone in to get a gurney from the morgue. They were at a little used back entrance. Greg was sweating, waiting for Lyzza to get back.
"Seriously, find a neighborhood, hotwire a car and go." David growled menacingly. "Do it now or so help me I will kill you myself!" David hung up as Lyzza came out with a gurney and a doctor. They unloaded Jayson and the first look the doctor took of Jayson he said, "Oh my God!" and rushed him inside. Greg was hopping out of the car to go after then but David stopped him.
