Chapter 29
Duncan hurried towards the lift with Greg. "Jensen said we need to come quickly. The spy he bugged is talkative tonight," Duncan said. The lift was already down and started towards the ceiling of the cave the moment their feet touched the lift floor. Jensen waved them over to listen as the translator spoke the words she was hearing.
"Yes, yes, the preacher that is related to the cur of a president in Jordan. He is there, I swear it. I saw him for myself. He is in with the rest; begging people to pray and get to know his God before it is too late. It is hilarious watching him cry over these stupid people. He sings like a madman, too."
Greg felt ill. There is only one person he could be talking about, Omar.
The translator went on, "No, I took him a woman to kill. He really likes that. The Divine Musa wants the preacher to be made an example of on live television sometime next week. The guards have been directed to leave him alone but he still got rearranged a bit before the order came. He's hurt and still somehow praising God all day. It is pitiful. Yeah, he's in that unground place where they are keeping the scrolls. Yeah, I got to see them. I wish they would have let me touch them but I got to see them."
The translator continued but it was just chatter than meant next to nothing for them. She continued to talking into a recording microphone and Jensen waved them to an office. "There is no way I am going to leave Omar there," Jensen said. "None." He looked at Greg and Duncan. "My question is are you going to help me?"
"I'm in," Greg said without hesitation.
"I don't know if we can get them out," Duncan said, "without blowing the whole operation."
"There is. Remember when Greg was going to work for that guy who came up dead? We did scans of the place. I am sure Mariam still has them somewhere. We need to dust them off tonight and we need to come up with a plan. I will not... under no circumstances, leave him and those captives to the depravity of that man and his minions," Jensen said with conviction. "Some of your soldiers would be nice, but I am willing to storm over there with those I have available."
"If we can come up with a plan, I will give you what I can, so long as the operation is not put at risk," Duncan said. "We can clear you out while we are planning and get everything possible underground. Pretend to be loading with your men as we shift things below. How many shipments are we waiting for tonight?"
"We have four more coming and that is the last of it. It's going to be a long night. The later it is the easier it will be to take them unaware. We get in and get out as quickly and quietly as possible. You will need to alert your medical staff that we will be coming in with nearly two hundred people and most will probably be wounded," Jensen said.
"I don't know where we are going to put them, but we will make space," Duncan said, "I will make sure we are ready for them."
"Greg, can you go get the readings from Mariam?" Jensen asked.
"No, wait, I have all the readings. Go see my wife, she's at home and ask her for my laptop. She knows where I keep it. Bring it back with you and let's see what we can do," Duncan said to Greg.
"Don't you think Mariam should help? She knows how to read those readouts better than any of us except maybe William," Jensen said.
"No, Mariam is recovering from childbirth. Greg can bring back William if you would like but leave Mariam out of this for now," Duncan said adamantly. Jensen nodded.
"Ok, William and laptop. Back as soon as possible," Greg said. The lift lowered him nearly to the floor before he jumped for it and ran like demons were after his soul. He made it to the Sterling's home and knocked. Claire nearly scared him by coming up behind him with one of the dogs on the leash.
