Chapter 30
"Ah my prodigy has come to visit me!" President Unden said when Jeremiah Ashe walked into his high security hospital room. The President had been reported to be on his deathbed and had undergone extensive heart repairs. Something Jeremiah had been hoping to see but President Unden looked rather healthy for a man on his deathbed.
There was, disappointingly, not even a deathbed to be seen. President Unden was sitting in a suite of well-appointed rooms. A room off to his left had all the trappings of a hospital room but it was empty. Jeremiah was confused and not just a little ticked off that President Unden's health was way exaggerated. President Unden watched Jeremiah's eyes. A small tick here and there belied the happy expression he pasted on his face. 'This was going to be so much fun!' Unden thought to himself.
"President Unden, it is so wonderful to see you up and about! We have been so worried about you. Is there a reason why you keep being shown as nearly dead on every news station? You should let the world know you are alive and well," Jeremiah said in a warm and excited voice.
'Ever the showman,' Unden thought with pleasure. "It was and continues to be a part of my plan, my boy," Unden said. "Come sit down and let's have tea. We can talk." Unden patted a chair next to him with a smile.
"Yes, sir," Jeremiah said and did as requested. "I would love to know what's up your sleeve."
"Did you know that the UN is the most corrupt institution to currently grace the earth at this moment? Well, it was until I had you dismantle the UN for my own purposes. We were second only to an organization called the WHO or The World Health Organization. They were not as smart as we were and got shut down years ago. With them out of the way, we were able to do great things, one of which, is you."
"Me?" Jeremiah was not liking this. He hated to be placed in situation that he could not control. He was always the one with hidden information and secrets that kept people beholden to him.
"Ah, yes... you were my favorite. Then and now, Jeremiah. I was given permission to create the perfect human specimen. I was given free range to test different parents and then create a breeding program and test the children. Environmental studies on how they were raised as correlated to IQ and mental health. Certain subjects, very early, were rejected during testing for...let's say, abnormal results; those that had behavioral or IQs outside of certain perimeters. Most of these children were released from the program, the one you call Saul is one of them. Another was you. Once released from the program, I was able to continue my research without prying eyes. You, Jeremiah, were the only one that got through my testing and excelled. You were my chosen one."
Jeremiah, while flattered, was unsure what to do with this information. "Chosen to be or do what exactly?"
"You were chosen to carry out my plans, of course. Do you remember reading the article at my desk on Machiavellian Psychopathy? I left it there for you to read. I believe everyone should know themselves. You also have Narcissistic tendencies and a bit of sadism. It is called the Dark Tetrad. It is very rare to have all four. It was bred into you and it was nurtured for a purpose," Unden said with pride in his accomplishments.
"Yes, I read it." To Jeremiah it felt surreal to be admitting that he read the contents of Unden's secret personal computer and then Unden admitted that he knew about it. Jeremiah felt so off balanced, it was not a feeling he liked or knew what to do with. He was starting to feel anger build up inside him, something he learned to control from a very early age. "Why? Why would you knowingly create someone with my capabilities and then... what was the purpose?"
"Of course you would see your... abilities... as capabilities and not things that were bad and dirty. Why do you suppose that is?"
"Morals and empathy are weaknesses. I will and have achieved greatness what weaker humans can and will never understand," Jeremiah said with incredible force of arrogance. Unden grinned.
