Chapter 35
A knock came to the door. They all looked at each other unsure if they wanted to answer it or not. Greg and Claire got up and stood on each side of the door. Greg opened it a crack and peered out. "What the heck!" he exclaimed and jumped back from the door opening it wider causing Claire to move out of the way and look out the door. A very upset Dr. Choi was there with Omar who was grinning from ear to ear sitting in a wheelchair. "My friends! I told Dr. Choi you were all here waiting on me!"
Omar looked terrible. His face was pretty mutilated and rather Frankenstein-ish in appearance. Extensive bruising plus a large swath of stiches starting above his eye and ended below it marked his face and part of his neck. Someone had given him an eyepatch to cover up the empty socket. His upper body to be casted from his neck to his belly button and from fingertip to fingertip. He had a short cast on one leg from calf to his toes. Dr. Choi was very angry looking but also confused because of everyone looking at her was exactly as Omar had said. She had brought him here to shut him up and instead the opposite happened.
Greg motioned them to come in and Claire took the opportunity to look in the hall to see if anyone was watching... that she could see. "Omar!" Mariam exclaimed as he came into view. "Shouldn't you be recovering in the clinic still? You shouldn't be up and around so soon!"
"Ah, but I am still under the super watchful eyes of my doctor, Mariam. God sent me. I need to talk to you all. Dr. Choi is not happy with me but I am sure she will forgive me. There is a snake in the garden," he laughed lightly. "I know how to chop off his head but you have to trust me...or more better, trust God. He did not bring all this to life to have the wiles of the devil ruin it all. Remember, He is in control... of all things... all the time."
"Thank God!" Jensen said. "We are open to hearing all you have to say, my friend. We are at a loss for sure."
"Can we get you something to drink? I have coffee, cider and hot chocolate," Mariam said. "Would you be more comfortable on the couch?"
"Cider would be nice, if the doctor allows it," Omar said with a smile. "Do I smell brownies?"
"Yes, I think we have a couple left, if Jayson hasn't gotten to them yet," Bess said with a smile. She went and looked and there were two left. Mariam went to make the cider.
"Dr. Choi, there are things I am about to say that you may not want to know, but you are welcome to stay," Omar said kindly.
"I am not leaving," Dr. Choi said grouchily. Mariam offered her a drink and she chose cider as well. "Say your peace so we can go back to the clinic. There is no telling how much damage you are doing to yourself sitting up as you are."
"Would it be better if we got one of the hospital beds and brought it here?" Greg asked.
"Yes, I would feel better if he were laying down, even if he was sitting up a little bit to talk to everyone," Dr. Choi said. "I could not manage to push him on one all the way here without hurting him or myself." Jensen and Greg got up. "Bring the one that is in the room with the light on. The one next to where Mariam gave birth." They left quickly.
Omar turned to Duncan, "I need Raj here, Duncan. Do not go yourself. You are all in danger at this moment, I want your promise, until this is done you will not go out alone. Everyone needs to be in groups of three or more. Maybe be escorted by soldiers. Mr. Lukas, you will need to keep Jakov close, promise me." Mr. Lukas did. "Now, back to Raj, he is safe right now. You all do not visit him much and he is pretty much ignored but he needs to be in on this discussion. Perhaps, Claire... could you find a way to bring him into this room without him coming here?"
Claire got where he was going with his question and pulled up her computer. She sent a message to Raj to see if he was awake and at his computer, he was not. She sent a message to the person on duty and asked her to send a guard to Raj and tell him to get on his computer. She got a reply that a guard was sent and Raj came on just a few minutes later. Raj messaged her back asking what the emergency was because he needed his beauty sleep. She pressed a few keys and his camera, and hers, turned on so they could see each other.
