Sunoo has stopped crying by the time i get out of the convenience store with a banana milk for him. i should have known jay would go overboard with the interrogation.
Apparently, Sunoo and Sunghoon were neighbours and played a lot together when they were little. but for some reason sunoo had to transfer to our neighbourhood, a couple of years ago.
last month when Sunoo met Sunghoon again, he thought it'd be great if all of us could be friends. so when Sunoo sent him our group picture, Sunghoon asked about why he hadn't seen me around. to that, Sunoo only- or so he says - told Sunghoon about how i am from australia but i prefer the cold. love it, actually.
how the last part held any significance in the conversation, i do not know.
"all i'm saying is that you should be careful spilling personal information to strangers." Jay falls into his chair.
i approach the others lazily handing the milk to Sunoo who is only peering down at his fingers. we all have settled around one of the many tables placed outside the store.
the rain in the morning has chilled the evening air more than usual and although it doesn't bother me, i doubt Jay and Heeseung can keep up with it for long in only their uniforms.
"Sunghoon hyung is not a stranger for Sunoo hyung!" Ni-ki spats. "and could you stop already? he's had enough." he holds Sunoo's face to his chest.
"the guy from last time wasn't a stranger either," Jay mocks. "in the end, the situation only got worse, remember?"
"the time when jake's underwear got stolen was actually funny though." Heeseung mutters and i can only thank him for trying to break the tension even if that memory he brought back horrifies me till this day.
"Ni-ki is right, Jay," i put an arm on Jay's shoulder. "Park Sunghoon can't be that weird, right?" i pause for a second. "right?"
"whatever," Jay shrugs. "i've got cram school, let's go Heeseung." Jay picks up his bag and turns to me. "on a side note, i have nothing against Park Sunghoon and who knows maybe he can leech off that layer of gloom you've been soaked in since years."
Heeseung gets up patting Sunoo's and leaves with Jay.
i turn to Sunoo who's still in Ni-ki's arms. "i'm sorry, sunoo." i walk up to him and bend my knees so that i'm looking up at him.
"you know Jay is sensitive to these matters. he loves you, nonetheless."
Sunoo rubs his eyes which are now slightly puffy and nods. i lean in and entwine our fingers, Ni-ki staring at our hands like he'd pierce a hole through.
"do you think i can meet Sunghoon sometime?" i stare nervously at my arms.
Sunoo looks at me and throws his brightest of smiles at me like the ball of sunshine he is.
"mhmm, sure."
Jay is such a heartless sometimes.
"it's too cold to be out, both of you should head back home." i advise getting up. "Also why did you guys miss school today?" i ask before heading back home myself.
"oh, that... i had an appointment for my dog's monthly checkup today," Sunoo says. "Ni-ki helped me carry my dog." he adds when i squint my eyes at Ni-ki.
"i know Ni-ki follows you everywhere sunoo, but- " i can't help but smile at how smoothly he almost pulled off the lie. "-but you know neither of you have a dog right?"
