Eliza's POV
"Mom, Dad, we have something to tell you!" we sat in the car after the appointment beaming with the news.
"IT'S A BOY!" I squealed
"AND A GIRL!" Charley joined in.
"Eliza, sweetie, that's wonderful!" "Twins! Wow, ummmm, wow!" I couldn't tell if they were happy, upset, disappointed or excited. From the look on Charley's face I could tell he was just as confused.
"We'll text you guys the pictures from the ultrasound but we have to go."
"bye, love you guys."
"love you too."We almost drove home in silence, something heavy was hanging in the air.
"Why did you wait?" his words cut through the air like a knife "I would have come back, I would have done something!" he began to raise his voice a little.
"After it happened it just hurt so much that we decided not to tell you, I knew you would find a way to blame yourself." I really didn't want to talk about this, ever. Charley should leave it alone and stop making me hurt again.
"Eliza, it is my fault, I should have been there to help you get over this or better yet been there to protect you!"
" It's not your fault! YOU didn't have to be there! YOU didn't have to help! YOU didn't rape me!" tears began streaming down my face, I didn't want to tell Charley, ever, I didn't want to talk about it, to relive the horror and humiliation and the hurt. Luckily we pulled up to the flat just as I finished talking, I quickly got out of the car and ran inside to my room and laid down on the bed. I stared at the ceiling hoping to see an answer scrawled above me. I stared for about fifteen minutes till I heard the door open, I ignored it, he prodded my arm with a hot cup of tea as he kneeled down next to my bed. I just stared harder, still no answer written up there.
"I've been staring at the hotel ceiling.
Drinking everything I've found this evening." he offered me the tea again, I ignored him. "Tryin' to hold on to this sweetest feeling." he grabbed my hand, I didn't respond. "So I'll never let you go, don't you leave me lonely.
Start to see this, everyone I know cannot believe this." he put the tea on my bedside table and climbed into the bed with me. He wrapped his arms around my still, shallow, hormonal body. "I'm tryna hold onto this sweetest feeling.
So I'll never let you go, don't you leave me lonely now." he kissed the top of my head forcing me to fight back a smile. I turned to look at him, his eyes caught mine. Suddenly I felt a shift in the universe, like every mechanism had fallen into place and began working. It felt so right, my answer didn't need to be on the ceiling when it was next to me this whole time.
