"There were some complications during the birth, Eliza will be fine but she will have to stay here for a couple of weeks till everything is alright"
"Can I see her?" I needed to see Eliza, to tell her again how much I loved her.
"Not yet, she's been in and out, she lost a lot of blood, we'd like to get her in a stable condition first."
"I understand" I nodded and sat down as the doctor left. I buried my head in my palms for what seemed like a good hour. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up.
"Hey mate"
I saw Lewi, Jake, and Danny.
"Your mum was going to be late so she called us to come and be with you" Danny explained.
"Thank you."
"Did you see the baby yet?"
"Babies."
"Oh, um, did you see the babies?"
"Not yet."
As soon as the words left my mouth a nurse appeared in the doorway.
"Mr.Bagnall?"
"Yes." I stood up as fear overcame my face. She gave me a reassuring smile before motioning to someone behind her. Two nurses walked in with her each holding a bundle, pink and blue. The first nurse handed me the pink one, my daughter. She was so small, so beautiful, absolutely perfect. She looked like Eliza, big brown eyes and light brown tufts of hair. Overwhelmed I could only smile "Hey, little princess" I whispered to her. She opened her eyes again and stuck her tongue out. I looked up to the grinning men next to me "Just like her mother" I chuckled lightly shaking my head. I handed her back to the nurse and took my son to the second.
He was larger than his sister but still just as perfect. What little hair he had was darker than his sister's and his eyes were lighter, he was moving his arms as if he was hitting something invisible floating above him. "Lewi, looks like we may have another little drummer!" the boys all laughed.
I handed him back to the nurse and all the nurses walked back to where the babies were being kept.
"Two weeks" reminded Lewi. I rolled my eyes "Oh, Charley, we have a surprise for you!" Jake spoke up. "Oh, yeah!" Danny remembered. "Can you come outside?" I hesitated, what if something happens while I was gone, what if Eliza wants to see me, what if something goes wrong while I was gone. I must have written my thoughts on my face as the boys quickly reassured me that it wasn't necessary to go right now. "Besides, it's for all of you" Jake had a small smile across his face. We all sat down, talking and waiting hours while family swooped in and out to coo over me and the babies. Neither of our parents had shown yet, Eliza's were out of town for the week and mine were still at work. Six hours had passed since I talked to the doctor and I was growing increasingly worried. Finally a nurse came in, she smiled at me "Elizabeth is awake and she said she'd like to see you."
I jumped out of my seat and followed her to Eliza's room.
Eliza was laying on the bed, pale, hooked up to IVs and barely awake. "Prince Charming" she whispered with a weak smile. Her voice was raspy and she sounded exhausted. She reached out for my hand and I held her fairly small hands in my much larger ones. I kissed her forehead "How are you, Princess?"
"That depends, how do I look?"
"Bad" I joked, we both laughed weakly.
"Then I guess I feel better than I look" she said still giggling. Suddenly we saw a bright flash of light.
"Danny! I told you not to use the flash!" groaned Lewi. Eliza looked at me clearly puzzled and then back to the paparazzi that had invaded the room. All of them had their phones out, snapping as many pictures as they could, except Jake who was filming.
"The babies! Where are they? Are they okay?" Eliza began to panic. I stroked her hair "They're fine, perfect, we can ask the nurses to see them." she instantly relaxed and quietly called over a nurse to bring them over. She handed me our girl and Eliza our boy.
"Let's name them!" Eliza squealed enthusiastically. "I want to name him Adam."
"Adam is perfect" I agreed.
"Ariel." I whispered over at Eliza. She nodded.
"Ariel" she whispered back.
"Wooooooooooooo!" the boys yelled across the room, causing them to receive harsh looks of disdain from the nurse.
"I want to switch." Eliza whispered kissing little Adam's forehead. I handed Ariel to her and she handed Adam to me.
"They look like you." she remarked.
"They look like you." I said back.
"Really, I thought they looked like me!" exclaimed Lewi.
