Can someone explain to me how I ended up spending three hours at H&M with a girl a barely know? Because I honestly have no clue whatsoever. Let me explain.
I texted Mia back as soon as I got home Friday seeing as her "Calum...this is a life or death situation" text scared the shit out of me. Had she broken her lipstick or whatever girls do? And why would she need to talk to me about it?
Anyway I texted her back before she had any more makeup catastrophes and I was prompted to be at the mall in 15 minutes. I, stupidly, went along with this.
And this is why, my friends, I am walking in and out of every single clothing store in the mall without a single answer as to what the huge "situation is".
"Mia... It's been three hours. Can't you just tell me what happened?" She sighs and puts down the Prada bag she was inspecting. "Alright, Calum. But I swear if you laugh or tell anyone at school I will-" I cut her off immediately, "Oh please, Mia. You won't do shit". I know I truly wouldn't tell anyone, but being passive has led me to be her puppy all afternoon.
Mia takes my hand and leads me out of the store, ushering me to a nearby bench. And then all dramatically, she directs her big hazel eyes at me and whispers in a way where I can just catch the last few words, "...and now he won't have sex with me." "What?" I manage to stutter out.
Exasperated, she rephrases "I called Luke out on checking out a couple of boys and now he won't have sex with me." Instantly blood rushes to my cheeks and I feel myself sweating and bit, "What do you mean, 'checking out a couple boys'?" I bite my cheek at the question after seeing the look in her face. " I mean, sitting window side at a café when a bunch of guys from the track team decided to run shirtless outside wasn't the best of ideas."
A million thoughts surge through my mind. Luke... likes guys? The idea is so strange and foreign to me as this guy, who my mind is currently contemplating his sexuality, gave me so much shit for mine.
"Calum?"
Mia's voice gets my mind together. "Okay let me get this straight. Luke's gay, you're not getting laid, and... What do I have to do with this?"
"Luke's not gay! He's just... Going through something's right now."
"How am I supposed to do anything about that?" Mia's peppy, eager side comes out again when she says, "Right. Calum, all you need to do is enlighten him the wonders of dating me." I burst out laughing and she rolls her eyes, obviously expecting me to have a different reaction.
"Why are you laughing?" "Mia, Luke absolutely hates me! I fucked up his car and he is just an asshole in general. How am I supposed to convince him to like you?"
"I have never seen him trust anyone with his car, ever! And I mentioned you the other day around him after work and the look on his face... Calum! You should've seen it." "You're trusting me to intrude in your relationship because he loaned me his car...?"
"You don't understand! I had a really important scholarship meeting to get to once an he didn't even let me use it." "Now I definitely can't help you there. Shitty boyfriends stay shitty". Mia gets up from her chair and glares at me, looking insulted. "Hey, I didn't come here so you could judge my boyfriend". "Seeing as you want me to straighten him, I think you did." She grabs her purse and walks to the door, not giving me a second glance. "Wait, Mia. I-" "Just think about it, okay?"
When I pull up to the driveway, I see Luke next door, shirtless, washing his car. If I'm going to do this I'm going to need all the willpower in the world to contain myself.
I try to act as casual as possible when I comment,"I see you got the fender fixed..." He stops scrubbing as soon as I speak and looks up at me, in all his wet, naked glory. "Where were you?" I'm completely taken aback. I was expecting a 'shut the fuck up' or a 'leave me alone'. Definitely not a question backed with worry. "I-I was uh... I was just-"
"You'd left your hoodie from before at my house. I tried to give it back to you but you weren't there."
"Oh." He was trying to be nice. This was... new. "It's just in my house, come ."
