“License and registration.”
Fuck.
I may or may not have slightly bumped into the car in front of me. The car also may or may not have been owned by a policeman. You know what, this isn’t my fucking fault. Who the fuck drives stick-shift now a days? The car just jolts out of nowhere!
“This car isn’t mine.” It’s Luke’s. Luke… who may just be planning my murder after he finds out about this. Shit. He didn’t even want me touching it and I just gave it a fender bender. Shit Shit Shit.
The bald and disproportionate cop mutters a few words and takes a look at my license.
"Hood? Calum Hood?"
"Uhh, yeah?"
"Hood as in Mark Hood? CEO Mark Hood?"
And here we witness the one thing my parents are good for. Getting me out of trouble.
"Yeah, that's me." I say, attempting to put on my best spoiled brat face. I guess it’s not too hard with the car I’m driving. The man loses his "top dog" demeanor and gives me a good look. "Alright, listen kid, I'll let you off with just a warning. But next time, for your sake, and mine. Watch where you're going!"
Ahh. The good ol’ effect of Mark Hood. It's a classic. "Thank you!" I mess around with the lever until it decides to spring forward. I drive around for a while and realize I don't know where the hell I'm going, so I decide to stop for a sandwich.
"If you park right at the side, someone will be right with your order." The all too cheery employee tells me. I wait for what seems like ever and think about what type of music Luke listens too. I mean he was wearing a Blink shirt today, he must have somewhat of a good music taste.
My hand nearly touches the button when Luke's words from earlier comes to mind, don’t touch my car. I hear a soft tap on my window and look up to see a light brunette with a bright green name tag spelling Mia who looks disappointed when I roll down the window.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, I just thought… “, She struggles to find her words for a moment. I search her golden eyes and smile. She’s probably the first person I’ve met in this city to come off as friendly.
“My boyfriend has this exact same car and I thought he came to surprise me at work, guess not. Here’s your order by the way.” My mind flutters to Luke for a moment. Is this his girlfriend? He doesn’t seem like the type to be in a relationship, especially not with a girl like this. I give it a try anyway.
“Luke?”
“Uh, yes. Is this his car?” And there it is. I can’t help but feel a pang of jealousy overcome me when I hear this, Really?! My subconscious yells at me, Luke?! You’re jealous that Luke, mean, rude, obnoxious Luke has a girlfriend?
“Yeah. I had no ride so he kind of lent me it.” The girl gapes at me with wide eyes and a confused expression.
“Are we talking about the same Luke here? Blonde, blue eyes…” She trails on and I nod.
“He refused to even let me in here on our first date and he’s letting you drive the car?!” “He’s such an assho-“, Before I have time to agree on her statement a woman is at the door yelling “Mia!” and the young girl in front of me panics.
“I have to go, but we should talk sometime. Ask Luke about me, my name is Mia Irwin.” She tells me and sprints towards the door.
I manage to arrive at the Hemmings house without getting into anymore car accidents. As I settle into the driveway, I check the time. 3:30… 3 more hours until my Aunt comes to pick me up. This is going to be hell.
“Later, dude.” I hear someone say followed by a car door slam. Oh no.
What am I going do? Luke is going to find out that his car has a dent and he’s going to kill me. Luke is going to kill me. I look through the side view mirror to see a pissed off Luke walking up to the driver’s side of the car and I lock the door. Shit. Luke tries to open the handle but ditches the idea and starts banging on the window when he sees it obviously locked.
“You fucking idiot!”
“You had one fucking job, Caleb! One fucking job!”
“What did I tell you would happen if you touched my car?! Open the fucking door!” I stare into his blazing blue eyes and feel all his anger. You’re the one who let me drive it, I want to say. Or maybe even it’s just a car! But I’m not that brave. I gently open the door and step out.
“It’s Calum.” He grabs me by my shirt and slams me against the garage door. Did I say the wrong thing?
He grits his teeth and his breathing becomes uneven. “You think you’re real fucking funny, huh fag? I’m going to kill you.”
“It’s just a car.” I blurt out and I almost wish I hadn’t. He pushes up against me and I immediately feel him effecting me, down there. I shift uncomfortably under his glare and try not to rub on him too much.
“You’re going to really wish you hadn't said that.” He whispers and punches me straight in the face.
