The ride to the Hemmings’ house was even more awkward than Luke’s way too sudden, way too rash invitation.

“Don’t forget to be kind and respectful to Liz. Please be on your best behavior Calum. Oh, and don’t forget to offer to-“

I silenced my Aunt’s droning by blasting my music up a bit louder. I honestly couldn’t care less about what they thought of me. Liz is my aunt’s friend and Luke… well Luke is just too rude and intimidating for me to even try to impress.

Walking up to the door, I take in my surroundings. Huge white house with a driveway lining in shiny Mercedes’, picture perfect lawn and similar houses around it. Of course.

“Calum! It’s so nice to see you again!” Liz greets me with an award winning smile.

“Yeah, uhm, Luke said he wanted to hang out?” She looks surprised but quickly changes her expression.

“Oh, of course! He’s up in his room. Second floor, last room to the right. Make yourself at home, Calum.”

“Thanks, Mrs. Hemmings.” I escape upstairs before she can drag me into a conversation that I had no interest in. But then again, why am I even here? Why did Luke invite me here first? I thought he just said that at dinner last night so he doesn’t seem like that much of a douchebag. Maybe he likes me? I dismiss the thought before I get strung up on it. He’s probably has a fit, blonde, cheerleader girlfriend who’s been nominated for Prom Queen all three years of high school.

I’m about to knock on the door as I hear light strumming and a voice accompanying it. He sings? I listen for a while, concentrating on the deep voice in the other room. The peaceful music stopped and is followed by a loud yell and what seems like a ripping of paper. This is my cue to leave.

“What are you doing here?”

I freeze.

A tall, blonde stares back at me. If his dangerously low sweats and unbuttoned flannel weren’t distracting me, I’d be very much worried about his death glare.

“Luke?”

He stands there, looking at me as if I was intruding his privacy.

“Uhm, you told me to come over, remember?” I try.

He runs a hand through his hair and god, his hair.

“Yeah. Stay here for a second.” Luke walks into his bedroom and stays there for what feels like hours, me awkwardly shifting on my feet.

He walks out in a pair of skinny jeans, a Blink- 182 shirt, and a beanie.

“You listen to Blink?”

“Shut up.”

So were back to this again?

He rushes down the stairs and grabs his car keys from the kitchen.

“Mom, I’m going out.”

“Lucas! You know you’re grounded this week, how many times do I have to remind you?”

He gives her his best innocent smile, “I’m just showing Caleb around.”

I frown at his poor excuse, “Its Calum.”

“Okay, sure.”

Liz looks down at her son and me, judging if he means well.

“Luke if I get any calls of your misbeha-“ Before she can even finish her lecture, Luke drags me out the door. He clicks a button on his keys and a black car beeps. I walk over to the passenger side, but before I can even get in it he stops me.

“You see this,” he gestures to his car, “ this is my baby. Ruin anything in it, touch anything in it, breath on anything in it, or even think about touching anything in it, you’re dead.”

I shudder at his words. How can he be so intimidating?

He takes a step closer to me, his blue eyes blazing into my brown ones, my back almost touching the car door and his chest not far from mine.

“Do you understand?”

I gulp. “Ye- yeah. I mean… Yes. Sure, okay.”

“Cool.” He backs off and strolls to the driver side of his car.

What just happened? My mind is cluttered and my heart is racing. Why does this kid have such an effect on me? A loud horn breaks me of my thoughts, and I turn to a smirking boy.

“As much as I‘d love to leave without you, I don’t think my mom would be too happy about that.”

I glance down at the car door, Will he get mad at me if I open it? He did say no touching.

An impatient Luke meets my eyes.

“Get in, loser.”
