"Brian Mills, this is Dr. Sp-" Spencer begins, but is cut off.
"Ahh... Dr. Reid," the voice on the other end of the phone croons, 'I'm assuming my package has been received, my sister has relented into letting the FBI handle her problems yet again, I see."
"What do you want?" Spencer asks, eying the others in the room.
"So direct," Brian Mills says, and then adds, "As interested as I am in picking your beautiful mind, I would like to speak with my sister."
"That's not going to happen," Spencer says, turning his back to the others this time and putting space between them.
"Oh don't let her pretty doe eyes fool you, doctor. She doesn't need your protection, and she isn't afraid of me either. She's always been very good at playing hard to get," Brian Mills almost hisses the last words.
Spencer pauses, mind running through various outcomes and responses, Spencer makes his way into Max's bedroom, and motions to Bright to follow.
"Dr. Reid?," Brian asks.
Malcolm does, and closes the door behind him.
Now out of ear shot from the girls, Malcolm whispers so only Spencer can hear, "Brian is a narcissistic massochist, who most likely believes he has some sort of twisted ownership over Max. If you mention your relationship in... certain terms, he will feel threatened, and may call whatever person he has hired on the outside off. He'll lose interest. This is just a game to him, he has plenty of time to obsess over her in jail, and he likes the idea of getting a rise out of the both of you."
Malcolm thinks for another beat, then says, "Max may have been half right that there isn't any real danger, because I'm sure whatever low life he hired to do everything will stop whenever whatever incentive he gave runs out. Think of it like dealing with a school yard bully, if you remove the reaction, they get bored."
"Spencer...." Brian is saying, annoyance growing.
Spencer nods his head in understanding and finally responds. "That's an interesting observation coming from someone who hasn't spoken to her since she was 11, I've found her to be a lot more... receptive in adulthood. Most of the time she practically begs me to--
"Enough," Brian growls, loud enough to make Spencer pull the phone away slightly and, and for Malcom to hear.
Malcolm gives Spencer a thumbs up.
"So," Spencer continues, maybe the next time you decide to give us a free photoshoot, you could at least get a better angle of ---" Spencer trails off when there is a chuckle on the other end.
"Oh, that part wasn't my idea, Spencie." Brian says, causing Spencer's face to turn gray.
Malcolm gives him a look of confusion and mouths, "what?"
Brian continues to laugh, "I just needed to get her attention. But if you won't let me speak to her now, then let her know we'll speak soon. And, if you were really smart you would stay out of it. She is... like a venom. A poison running through your veins, making you weak and slowly killing you. But from what I hear, you're not so opposed to that sort of woman... You tell Harlowe I will talk to her soon."
The line clicks off, and Spencer slowly lowers the phone.
He's staring past Malcolm who's voice sounds a million miles away.
