Part 21 🌸

The next day was pretty uneventful. I woke up, Carson called me, got dressed for the day, went to school, got home, ate a snack, watched a movie with Stacey, called Sam cause I got bored, showered, ate dinner, and went to bed.

Right now it is Wednesday, and we are going to catch up with Dawn and see how she's doing with Natalie and the Barretts.

Claudia- so, acid yellow or dove grey... Dawn? Dawn!
Dawn- huh? I'm fine, I just dozed off

I raised my eyebrows.

Stacey- you fell asleep in biology class today. Mrs.Fairmont definitely noticed.
Dawn- it's just..

She hesitated. Then she sighed and looked at us.

Dawn- the Barretts.
Kristy- knew it!

I patted Dawn's shoulder.

Claudia- it's not your fault. They're impossible
Dawn- Natalie leaves the house looking like an earthquake hit it. I mean, I started straightening it up to help, but now she expects it, and she's bad about coming back on time and the kids have no discipline.
Mary Anne- that sounds horrible
Lilliana- I could help you next time. You shouldn't have to take care of three kids and try and maintain her house when she can't all on your own
Dawn- thanks...
Lilliana- no problem! Also the payments all yours, I don't really need any extra money right now
Dawn- *sigh* it'll be ok, you know? I'll just...

She grabbed a pillow and laid her head on it.

Dawn- have some sleep, and... I'll be fine

Claudia walked over to her and took the pillow from under her head.

Claudia- cancel. Now.
Stacey- seriously Dawn, you can't keep falling asleep in corners or during frog dissections.
Dawn- but the kids need me. Bailing on them with everything going on would just make everything worse. And I'm still on probation, right?

We all looked at Kristy. She shrugged and turned her head away.

Mary Anne- maybe you can talk to Natalie. Discuss what's ok and what's not of a babysitter.
Kristy- or maybe the family just needs someone a little more experienced, someone who can set boundaries.

We all went silent and just thought for a minute. Then Dawn's face lit up and she sat next to Kristy.

Dawn- Kristy, you know how much I want to join the club. I don't want to fail these kids. You are the most experienced sitter I know. What if you and Lilli came over to my house tomorrow and gave me some tips?
Lilliana- I'll go

She nods her head. I laugh to myself and continue writing some new songs.

Dawn- what ya doin Lilli?
Lilliana- making some new songs
Claudia- I haven't heard you play yet
Stacey- me neither
Dawn- same
Lilliana- well, I have practice later, maybe you guys can swing bye
Claudia- I'll be there
Stacey- I second that
Dawn- me too

My phone rings. It's Carson, and he wants to FaceTime. We aren't really busy right now so I decide to answer it.

Lilliana- hi Carson!
Carson- heyyy
Stacey- omg, is that who I think it is?!

I nod my head and Stacey squeals.

Stacey- hi Carson!
Carson- hey Stace!
Claudia- who is that?
Lilliana- Claudia, Kristy, Mary Anne, and Dawn, this is Carson, one of my best friends.
Mary Anne- is he the one who moved to California before you moved here to Stoneybrook?
Lilliana- yup
Carson- nice room.
Claudia- thanks, I like to express myself in color... and art
Carson- cool. I do band... but like marching band
Lilliana- speaking of bands, I'm in one!
Carson- really?!
Lilliana- yeah, but like... not a marching band

We all laugh.

Carson- with who?
Lilliana- Sam and a couple other friends
Carson- ooo Sam hm?
Lilliana- stop it!
Carson- girls... spill the tea
Claudia- ok, so Lilli and Sam both have huge crushes on each other, but they're both too oblivious to realize it.
Stacey- omg! And a couple weeks ago they kissed!
Carson- ok ok, I see you. So was it full on make out or?
Lilliana- Carson!
Kristy- it wasn't a make out, but it lasted a while. It was gross
Carson- oh, you'll find yourself someone honey, trust me. I thought it was gross too until I found myself a man
Lilliana- Jason.
Carson- yeah.. that didn't work out. Buttttt I'm talking to someone new
Lilliana- oooo who is he?
Carson- ok, his name is Michael, and he's really nice. He has a sister and she's a couple years younger than him. He is the same age as me and we go to the same school, and he's also in the marching band
Stacey- oooo

We all laugh. We all talk a bit more before the phone rings. Kristy goes and answers it.

Kristy- it's Natalie, she needs a sitter Saturday afternoon. Dawn, you're up
Dawn- *groan* I'm gonna die...
Lilliana- no you're not, I'll go with you, and with Kristy's tips, you should be fine!

She nodded and Kristy hung up the phone with Natalie. Then we got another call.

Kristy- hello, babysitters club... It's Melissa, she needs a sitter Friday afternoon, 5:30 to 7:00. Lilli it's you
Lilliana- aww I haven't seen Tyler in weeks
Carson- you guys have a babysitting club?
Claudia- yeah, it helps us get some money...
Stacey- and it's also a plus for high school volunteer hours
Lilliana- and college
Carson- smart
Mary Anne- it was Kristy's idea, she's the president of the club
Carson- independent woman, I like you
Kristy- *laugh* livin the independent life

We talk a bit more before I have to get going to Sam's house. I say bye to Carson and we all walk over to the Thomas house. Sam and Oliver were in the garage, but no Emmett.

Lilliana- hey guys, where's Emmett?
Oliver- he can't come today. Has something to do with his mom
Lilliana- oh. That's great for him
Sam- your mom still hasn't talked to you?
Lilliana- nope
Oliver- she has to eventually, she can't just ignore her daughter for the rest of her life
Lilliana- actually she could but-
Sam- but, don't worry about it, ok?

I nod my head and kiss Sam's cheek. The girls come in and sit down with us and we talk a bit. We showed the girls a prerecorded song because we couldn't play without Emmett. They liked it and we said thanks. Then Stace and I went home.

What if she doesn't talk to me again?
