Soundtrack: Paul de Senneville - Mariage d'Amour
Life has been pretty hard for me here in Devildom. I have loads of homework piling up at my desk that I unsuccessfully covered by dirty clothes, and I'm not even a messy person to begin with. There must be something wrong with me that I start to stray from my normal self, but I just can't seem to figure out what it is that has been bothering me.
It's only been 6 months since I first joined this one-sided exchange program, and the remaining half year still feels like a lifetime.
The House of Lamentation is always so quiet after dinner because everyone will be busy doing whatever they think is important at this hour. Lucifer is probably still trapped behind the endless paperwork that Diavolo left him to finish. Sometimes I feel bad for him and always want to give him a helping hand. I've tried once, and he told me right off the bat "you're just going to be a hindrance! You'll only mess things up and that means I need to work twice harder!" a simple no, thank you would suffice. He didn't really have to hurt my feelings that much.
Levi will be caught up in his room playing a video game, and he would even lock his door at some point. Asmo is probably taking a bubble bath, with a glass of champagne in his hand, admiring his own beauty. Belphie... well he must have fallen asleep in the attic by now.
Mammon would usually be tailing me after dinner, but tonight he said he had 'business' to attend to. As if, he's probably out there gambling with the witches.
I was about to spend my time in the library when I found Satan sitting crossed-leg near the fireplace with a book in his hand. He doesn't even notice me when I approach him and peek through his shoulder. He looks so serious and unbothered. I can see a glimpse of the two-sided pages with words that are scribbled out in strange symbols. I'm not even interested in some explanation, so I'm not going to ask as I walk back to the door.
I really need to be somewhere alone that is not my bedroom right now.
So I decided to walk around aimlessly until I reach the kitchen. I can hear clanking noises from inside, it's pretty chaotic. What's happening?
My hand almost reached for the doorknob, but don't proceed to push it open. It must be Beelzebub rummaging the fridge for some dessert even after devouring three whole rounds of chocolate cake by himself. So I continue walking further.
My mind was so occupied that I didn't realize I was already standing in the music room.
I love this place, it feels so serene at a night like this when the sky is clear. I especially enjoy sitting on the floor, back resting at the little fountain in the middle of the planetarium, just looking out the window. It always gives me a feeling of reassurance that I can't describe.
This place is what I need right now.
I walk towards the black grand piano at the corner of the room. I was wondering how long it has been since I last play this beautiful piece of an instrument as I sat on the little bench. My fingers suddenly move on their own, putting the weight on one of the white tuts. I can hear the echo of a middle C throughout the room as I started to give a second gentle push.
Goosebumps start to creep up my neck along with a trail of nostalgia. Without hesitation, I start playing the piano. One song. Two songs.
I was so riveted by the sound of the music that I didn't realize I'm not alone in the room anymore. Someone cleared his throat from behind me, and I quickly dropped both my arms to my sides before turning around to see who it is.
Lucifer is standing behind the closed door, hands entangled in front of his chest. He looks tired, as always, but there's a faint smile on his face right now which contradicts everything that is happening with him on the inside.
