"So, Solomon..." Simeon points his Demonus glass towards the sorcerer. "How was Y/N's study this evening? I heard she made a remarkable improvement."

"I'm here if you want to ask me directly... but sure, ask my teacher instead!" I mutter under my breath as Simeon does not seem to want to hear my opinion regarding my achievement.

"She was incredible," Solomon replies with a huge smile on his face. "She managed to master three advanced spells in just one day."

"That's wonderful!" Diavolo cheers from across the table.

We're having a dinner party at the House of Lamentation to celebrate my first official anniversary of becoming Solomon's apprentice. It's actually two days away from today, but since Diavolo wouldn't be able to make it on the exact day, he insisted that we move the dinner party forward.

"As expected from my adorable apprentice," Solomon looks at me as he places his palm over my right hand above the table.

"Tch..." an irritated voice echoes from my left side. His voice sounds the loudest in the bustling atmosphere.

"Did you say something, Lucifer?" Barbatos suddenly speaks from Diavolo's side, breaking his character as an active listener.

The mischievous smile on the butler's face is so blatant that I can almost read his mind.

"You must have me misheard with someone else," Lucifer claims nonchalantly as he's picking out his food with a fork. He seems gloomy throughout the dinner party.

"Right," then Solomon takes control of the whole conversation once again. "By the way, thank you for inviting me, Lucifer!"

"What choice do I have?" he replies. I can almost taste the bitterness in his voice through the food inside my mouth.

"Sorry?" the sorcerer next to me asks, undoubtedly hurt and confused from what Lucifer just said.

"I hate to break it to everyone," Lucifer grunts from his seat before slamming his cutleries onto the table, making the whole room silent. "But I believe I must attend to an important task that requires my urgent attention."

"I thought you've cleared out your schedules..."

Lucifer's crimson eyes instantly shoot me a glare that can strip my flesh from the bones, "apparently, this one is... unexpected. Please, continue this... extravagant night of exchange flatteries!" Lucifer dismisses me quickly as he half-slams his napkin on the table before rising from his seat.

"Did he wake up at the wrong side of the bed this morning or something?" Mammon, who has been silent for quite a while, suddenly chimes in as his older brother leaves the dining room.

"Maybe I should go check on him," without prolonging further unnecessary drama, I get to my feet and follow Lucifer's steps.

I hear murmurs as I walk farther from the celebratory of my achievement. My heart is aching from the fuss Lucifer just created. I wanted him to enjoy this moment so that I could picture his proud expression and store it in the back of my head as my personal reward for going this far in life.

He's hardly acting infantile, especially not when Diavolo is in attendance. Something surely is wrong that made his moods unhinged.

After a thorough search for a strand of his hair around the house, I finally get to the last place I haven't looked into. He sure does move faster than the wind when he's mad.

As I climb the spiral stairs, a wave of nostalgia comes rushing through my brain like a fog. When I first discovered this dismal place that crept the shit out of me, Lucifer and I were not on good terms. There were turmoil at the beginning of our relationship. It was extremely arduous to earn his trust, let alone his heart. I smile bitterly as I shake the thoughts away from my head.
