Toni's POV
15 years earlier

Most 17 year olds spent their Friday nights with friends, going out for the night or even hanging out with their family. I wish I was doing that instead I was sitting in the bathroom holding a positive pregnancy test.

"Toni get out of the bathroom I need to get in the tub!" I heard my younger sister Tamar yell.

"In a minute." I say softly trying not to break down.

"Toni!" Tamar yells again and I get annoyed.

"Tamar you can wait three more minutes!" I yell back.

I hear her stomp her foot.

"I'm telling mommy!" She yells and I was too focused in my own problems to even focus on her.

I look at the pregnancy test again and see the positive startling right back at me. I couldn't believe I was pregnant. What was I going to tell my boyfriend? More importantly what was I going to tell my parents? I didn't even know if I wanted to keep this baby.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts as I hear my mother and Tamar burst through the door. Before I could even hide the pregnancy test I could see my mothers eyes look at it and then back at me.

"Tamar go downstairs." My mother says.

"I need to take my bath."

"Go downstairs!" My mother yells.

Tamar does at told disappearing out of the bathroom and I look at my mother fear washing all over my body. She snatches the pregnancy test from me and sighs once she sees the result. I hang my head down in shame afraid of what she was going to say next.

"Go to your room we'll deal with this when your father gets home." My mother says softly but firmly.

"Mommy-"

"Toni now is not the the time." She tells me.

I don't say anything and walk to my room tears in my eyes. I could see my other sisters Traci, Towanda and Trina in the hallway and they immediately follow me into my room.

"What's wrong Toni what happened?" Trina asks.

"You're in trouble now aren't you?" Towanda asks.

"Get out." I say.

"It was just a joke Toni." Towanda says.

"I don't care get out of my room." I say.

Towanda and Trina don't say anything and leave my room but Traci stays.

"Are you okay Toni you can always tell me." She says to me.

"I'll be fine just don't expect to see me for a while." I say.

Traci doesn't say anything and gives me a hug after that she leaves my room finally allowing me to cry.

My father comes home about an hour later. He always tells my mother he's out at the church handling business. When in reality he's out with his little hoe.

I could hear my parents talking for a little bit before my father angrily called my name.
I walk downstairs shaking with fear trying to remain calm.

"Sit." My father says and I do as told.

"Pregnant!" He shouts. "At 17 years old. I cannot believe you Toni you've been raised in the church do you know how sinful you look right now!"

I look at my mother for backup but she doesn't do anything but turn her head away from me.

"You're committing adultery you're just as sinful as I am." I snap and it gets quiet between my parents and I.
