Soleil's POV

The next day I woke up ready to start on the search to find my mom. I realized I'd have to get my dad out the house though. Today was Monday which meant Lisa had work and the twins were sent off to daycare. My father didn't usually work on Monday which I found odd but I never questioned it. Today was going to be the day I did question it.

I went downstairs and saw my dad making avocado toast and bacon for the both of us.

"I figured you would be getting up soon so I decided to make us breakfast to make up for last night." He says to me.

"Thanks." I say as I sit down at the table. He gives me my plate of food about five minutes later and sits across from me at the table.
It's silent while we eat and I decide to ask about my dad some questions about my mom. I didn't wanna seem to obvious though.

"Dad what was mom like?" I ask while taking a bite of my toast.

He makes a face at me but decides to just answer my question.

"She was my first love the most beautiful woman I ever met. She had the most beautiful singing voice. When she was pregnant with you she'd sing to her stomach every night." My dad says.

"Can you show me some pictures of her?" I ask and then silently curse myself for asking that.

"No I can't." He says.

"Why?" I ask. "I don't even know what she looks like."

"Because you just can't you're better off not knowing anything about her." My dad says.

So that's why he kept that box with all that stuff downstairs. I think to myself.

"Whatever dad." I say getting up I didn't even wanna finish breakfast anymore.

"Lei wait." My dad says.

I roll my eyes and walk away. I was going to see my mother wether he liked it or not. About an hour later he knocked on my room door.

"Come in." I say.

"I'm going to go down to the studio for a little while." He says and I look at him.

"Okay." I say going back to my phone.

"You mad at me?" He asks sitting on my bed.

"I don't know." I say and he sighs.

"Look I know you wanna know who your mother is but it's best if you didn't you don't deserve to go through that type of hurt." He says.

"Didn't you say something bad happened to her so what's the point." I say. I was still pretty mad he made it seem like my mother was dead when she was actually alive.

"Yeah I did say that but-" My dad sighs. "It doesn't matter Lei you don't need to know her."

He kisses my forehead and leaves my room. I look out my bedroom and watch him leave in and drive down the street. I call Alana and tell her to come over so we can get started. In the meantime I decided to call my grandmother and ask if she knew anything about my mother.

I felt bad lying to her so I told her everything about the box I found yesterday and the conversation I had with my dad this morning.

"Your mother is very much alive baby." She tells me. "Me and her keep in touch still your father just won't let her come around you she's been trying to see you for years."

My grandmother goes on to tell me my mother used to send me letters but my dad never showed me them so she just started sending them to my grandmother. Apparently she was going to read all of them with me on my 18th birthday because that's when she could actually see me without my dad interfering.

"Grandma you don't happen to know her address?" I ask.

My grandma reads me off the address and I put it in my phone notes.

"Thanks grandma." I say.

"Soleil baby I don't know what you're up to but please don't get yourself in trouble." My grandma tells me.

"I won't I promise." I say I hear the doorbell ring and I assume that's Alana.

"Grandma I got to go Alana's here." I say.

"Okay tell her I said hi." My grandma says.

"I will." I say back. I hang up the phone and go downstairs and answer the door for Alana.

"Tell me everything about your mom, what does she look like? Is she really your twin? Is she really a famous singer?" Alana asks.

"Alana calm down you didn't even get into the house yet and you're already asking me questions." I say pushing her into the house. I close the door behind her and we begin to walk to my room.

"I'm sorry it's just all of this is just so exciting." Alana tells me. "Aren't you excited."

"A little." I say giggling we enter my room and we both sit on my bed. "Fine I'm really excited I mean I'm finally finding out who my mother is."

"Does your dad know?" Alana asks me and I shake my head.

"No he doesn't want me to know anything about her. He still thinks I believe that she's dead so I haven't brought anything up to him." I answer.

"Apparently me not knowing about her is for my own good." I say making quotes with my fingers.

Alana laughs and I pull out the box and let her look through it.

"Wow you really are her twin." She says as she begins to look through the polaroids. She then looks through the baby book and sees the letter my mother wrote me on the last page.

"Why did you think she left?" She asks.

"I don't know but I'm going to find out." I say. "My grandma just gave me her address."

"Where does she live?" Alana asks.

"California." I answer and Alana's eyes widen.

"Please shes all the way out there and you're trying to meet her pshh you might as well hang that up." Alana says.

"I have enough money to get a plane ticket." I say.

"Doesn't your dad monitor your bank account he'll see that you purchased it." Alana says.

"I'll get a prepaid." I say.

"Okay you got that figured out how are you going to go all the way to California without your dad finding out?" Alana asks.

"This is where you come in." I say and Alana shakes her head.

"No no no." She says.

"Come on Alana please you promised you'd help me and this is something that's really important to me." I say.

Alana sighs.

"Fine what is it?" She asks trying not to smile.

"Can you say I'm sleeping over at your house while I'm gone you'll only have to lie for 3 days." I say.

"Only 3 days?"

"Only 3 days."

"Count me in." Alana says and I squeal and give her a huge hug.

"Thank you so much." I say.

I put all the contents back into the box and place it into my closet where I know nobody will look for it.

I know my dad didn't want me to but I was determined to see my mother wether he liked it or not.
