Jahniqui's POV

So here I was cooped up in my room not having any plans for the day. It was Sunday, which means that in approximately five days I'll be on my way back to that God forsaken city- New York. Am quite contented here if you ask me. The place had this serene feel about it.

Lifting myself from the bed I walked over to the sliding doors which lead to the balcony. And no, a balcony wasn't there when I was a kid. My brother had single handedly modernized it.

Stepping out on the marble floors the sizzling morning breeze hit my face without warning, sending my hair in all directions. It was a little chilly since the only clothing I had on was a big white t-shirt marked 'screw you' and underwears. So my legs were exposed to nature itself.

It was overlooking a massive landscape. The scenic beauty was punctuated by a variety of lush, green trees on undulating hills.  Filled with flowering plants containing deeply colored petals of all kinds that simply highlighted it's natural aesthetics.

Leaning my head from side to side, I let the wind caressed me slowly. "Mmmm." Refreshing I thought.

"Niqui, what are you doing up so early?" The voice of my brother burst the bubble I was in. I whipped my head around to find him leaning against the door frame in a grey sweatshirt and matching pants. Sweat was dripping from his face. Seems like he had gone to the gym already. Does he even sleep?

"Just enjoying the view. Some of us don't have the privilege of waking up to this....everyday." I gestured to the area behind me. "Well you could if you wanted to." He said.

"No, i'd rather just come and visit. Living here would take away the thrilling essence of vacationing at home." I gave him a small smile. He shrugged but I could sense that something was bothering him. Curious as to what it was, I asked. "Are you ok?"

Xavier didn't look up at the same time but he sighed heavily and I knew my assumption was correct. Raising his head his eyes filled with distress.

Walking over I ran my hand against his arm trying to soothe him. "Hey you can talk to me you know that right?"

"Yeah it's just complicated."

"How so?" I asked nudging him to talk to me.

"I have this event to attend tomorrow where am being honored for my accomplishments in the hotel industry and work in charity and I don't want to go." My mouth must have dropped to the floor and back.

Was this guy for real? You're being freaking honored and don't want to go. You one crazy ass nigga! I sounded like the girls from the hoods. But I've got a little of the ghetto in me so...whatever.

My brother was never one to boast but was he that afraid of the spotlight. Because of this no one knew I had a brother or even a sister. We are not ones to boast or fling our successes in other peoples face.

No way in the world I was going to let him miss something as important as this in his life. If the solution was to drag him out of the house to that fancy shit, then that's what am going to do. By the hook or the crook. Wait. Am missing something here.

Cranking my head to the right and crossing my arms over my chest I gave him the 'what aren't you telling me look'. This he knew all too well. As expected he gave in and spoke up.

"Fine there's this woman I can't stand to be breathing the same air with. And she's going." Oh this is getting interesting! Wide eyes suggested my dire need for details. So we sat down on the lounge chairs to have a nice little chat.

Telling me about the woman he really liked. Not 'loved', his words not mine. And the rest of his love life just got me fiery mad. How could a guy of his characteristic trait be so stupid? A dog could sniff a gold digger from a mile away. I seriously need to meet this bitch.

"Okay so here's the plan. I go with you to this thing and you won't have to be there alone. Besides what arm could it do....eh." His face lights up like a kid awaiting Christmas morning to open presents. "But under one condition." I said sounding quite controlling.

"Am listening," he said. Grinning from ear to ear. Awe! Wasn't he just the cutest brother ever? "You buy me the things to wear cause I didn't stash any fancy shit in my bags." If I say the smile on his face got bigger, dear, I wouldn't be lying to you.

"Its a deal."

******

The rest of my day was spent gardening with grandma after breakfast. Which was deliciously yummy. Eggs, bacon, pancakes and coffee hadn't been on my morning platter in a while. I also had grapes and an orange. Talk about the country life. We were having a good time but she just had to spoil it.

"So which fine young man has been tapping that ass back in the city?" She asked out of the blue and the language took a real toll on me.

"Ma?!" I said petrified as hell.

"Oh don't act like you ain't got a man with that fine body of yours." Where was this coming from? "Grandma I don't have a boyfriend, no time for that." The reply really seemed to irritate her. Still it didn't implicate what happened next.

"So let me get this straight you going to die a virgin?!" She started laughing so hard that she had tears flowing down her cheeks. Okay now am confused. This was not funny.

"Honey you should have seen your face. You were like a ghost for a second there." Absent minded I rolled my eyes at her."Glad I could be your source of entertainment." Mentally I cried, physically I grimaced.  She was enjoying this to no ends.
