'You're late.'

He took out his earphones and smiled. 'So.. How are you?' he asked, trying to make polite conversation. 'Good, you?'

'Mm yeah.. Good.' I looked around and asked, 'Soo.. You going to tell me where we're going?'

a wide smile grew accross his face. 'Taaxi!' he yelled and stuck his hand out. Straight away a sleek black cab pulled up beside us. 'Nope,' he said pulling open the door and winking. I slid into the cream leather seat, Brad sliding in after.

'Where to?' the driver asked as we pulled onto the slippery road.

Brad leaned up to the window separating us from him and spoke quietly.

I could see the driver smile in the mirror, 'special occasion?' he asked, raising his bushy eyebrows.

'Nah, just doing a bit of sightseeing.'

I gave Brad a puzzled look but he just smiled.

The driver was funny (think Rupert Everett). Maybe his driving skills were questionable but he kept the conversation going as we drove through the darkening streets. I wondered would we able to keep up the conversation at.. wherever we were going.

All of a sudden, we skidded round a sharp corner. I was flung to the left, straight into Brad. Ouch, I thought, rubbing my elbow. It took me a few seconds before I realised I was still squishing him against the car door. He coughed awkwardly and asked if I was okay. I nodded, apologised and scooted back. 'Maybe we should try seatbelts?', he half laughed. I could feel my cheeks growing red.

'Sorry about that.. I wasn't going to make the lights..' the driver said from the front. Maybe you should keep your eyes on the road next time Mr. Driver Man.

I buckled my seatbelt in and started counting the droplets on the window. Maybe this night would be longer than I thought.

We stopped abruptly at our destination. 'This is as close as I can get you I'm afraid!', he said. We thanked the driver and Brad handed over the money. Seriously he couldn't do this again. 'No no no, I'll pay!' I said, shoving a £20 in the drivers face. 'No, you're not.' he said pushing my arm out of the way. 'Yes. I. Am.' I replied through gritted teeth. 'Fine but I'm paying for dinner.' Victory.

I looked around and realised I had absolutely no clue where I was. I turned to the driver to ask but he had already left us, two teenagers in the middle of London without a clue.

'You do know where we are yeah?' I asked Brad cautiously.

'Pfft yeah.. Course... Charing cross is um.. That way?' he answered pointing in the general direction of down the road. 'No..' he sighed, looking worried.

'Well this should be fun..'

'Scuse me, which way to the Thames?', he asked a random man in a suit.

The man pointed to the left before dashing off, answering his phone.

Pfft.

Sure enough, when we turned left, you could just about make out the river further down, behind all the buses and taxis and tourists, reflecting the evening light.

I began to shiver, wow, a skirt was not the best choice.

'Don't worry-,almost there, look!' he said pointing to the London Eye. I smiled, it was such a nice gesture, really. I looked at the capsules, rotating around the gigantic wheel, towering proudly over the city, it really was a very long way to the top.
