{Losing Control}

A few minutes later, JJ pulled the van into a rundown yard, a battered trailer sitting in the middle of it.

"Welcome to crackhead wasteland," Sarah said dryly as I let out a heavy sigh.

"I don't know about this, man," Pope muttered, clearly uneasy.

"Dude, why are we at Barry's?" John B asked, annoyance clear in his voice.

"This'll only take a second," JJ assured us as he hopped out of the van.

"Wait, JJ!" I called out, rushing after him into the trailer. My brother followed closely behind.

"I know he's got a stash around here somewhere," JJ muttered, digging through the cupboards and throwing things on the floor. My brother shot me a concerned glance, furrowing his brows, and I sighed.

"Yeah, so what's the plan, slick?" John B asked, crossing his arms.

"Well, as thou hath stealeth from us, we shall stealeth from ye," JJ replied, tossing cushions off the couch.

"That kinda got lost in translation," John B shrugged.

"An eye for an eye, John B," JJ shot back.

"Yeah, that's great, JJ, but what happens after you rob a drug dealer?" John B asked, stepping in front of him to block his way. "He knows who we are! He'll come after Jackie, bro."

I looked at JJ with pleading eyes.

"I'm not scared of this guy," JJ said, shoving my brother aside.

"JJ, don't—" I started, but he cut me off, walking into a bedroom.

We followed him as he tossed money from a duffel bag onto the bed.

"What are you doing?" I asked, watching him without making eye contact.

"Getting even," JJ replied, stuffing the money into his bag.

"Took care of business," JJ said as he went back into the kitchen. We followed him, but John B was losing patience.

"Hey, look at me. If you keep going down this road, you're gonna end up just like your dad!" John B yelled, his voice sharp.

JJ shoved him into the fridge with a grunt. "You watch your mouth, man!" he warned, his face twisted with frustration.

My eyes widened in shock.
