"where's billie?" cleo asked with furrowed brows as i sat down beside her in first block.

"i don't know," i mumbled. "she hasn't answered my texts or calls since, like, five something yesterday."

"did y'all get into a fight or something?"

"yeah... i don't even know why though. we were just talking when she got all pissy and started going off on me." i explained as i pulled my leg to my chest and wrapped my arms around it. i rested my chin on my knee.

"the fuck?" she cocked a brow.

i just shrugged as i stared at the whiteboard at the front of the classroom.

"you two are always getting into fights." she commented.

"it's normal for couples to fight."

"not like y'all do; not as frequently as y'all do," she told me. "i'm just saying... she seems toxic as hell."

she's the third person to say that.

"she's not toxic," i defended quietly. "she just..." i stopped when i couldn't think of an excuse.

"she's not." i repeated, it barely coming out as a whisper.

"sage..." she trailed off. "i honestly think you should just end things with her."

"i can't," i shook my head. "i love her, cleo."

even if she is an asshole more often than not.

"this isn't healthy though," she pointed out. "before you met her, you didn't give a fuck about anything you did, but now you overthink doing anything because you don't want to upset her; it isn't healthy! it's toxic."

"could you stop? i don't want to talk about this," i mumbled. "we're in the middle of a damn classroom."

"i'm just trying to help you, sage." she sighed.

i rubbed at my temple as i finished putting my textbooks into my locker. it's after fourth block, and i still haven't heard back from billie.

"hey!" i heard someone call out.

i turned to see if they was talking to me. i raised a brow as i saw a girl coming up to me.

"hey?"

"you're sage, right? billie's girlfriend?" she asked.

"yeah..." i said slowly. "why..?"

"i don't know if you knew this already, but i thought you should if you don't," she started. "i was out at a party last night, and i saw billie there. she was, like... really close with some girl."

"oh." i mumbled though it felt like there was a million thoughts running through my mind.

did she really go out and cheat on me because of a stupid argument?

she wouldn't... right?

no, she loves me.

right?

"thanks for telling me." i told her as i forced a smile.

"yeah, of course," she nodded. "sorry about the situation though..."

"yeah..." i trailed off.

the tardy bell rang, so we went out separate ways to our classes. as i walked there, i pulled my phone out of my pocket.
