i groaned as i rolled over, but then winced. i slowly sat up, then rubbed at my eyes.

i got up and walked over to the full body mirror i had in my room. i raised my shirt up a bit, then frowned as i looked at my side.

bruises are so ugly.

it's been about a month since billie first slapped me.

since then, she's hit me a lot more.

just two days ago, we got into an argument. like always, she was yelling the entire time. then at the end of it, she pushed me. my side ended up hitting the corner of the counter. since i have sensitive skin and it bruises easily, it left a big ass bruise.

i let out a small sigh as i put my shirt back down, then grabbed a hoodie and slipped it on. i crossed my arms over my chest, being mindful of the bruise.

what did i do to deserve this?

i just wish that she would stop.

one time, i had tried to hit billie back. since she's the one who taught me how to fight, and she's a lot stronger than me, i would've been better off not even attempting it.

i walked into the living room, and i saw mom walking towards me. it seemed like she was about to go to my room.

"i was just about to go get you up." she told me. she stepped closer to me and cupped my face. "are you okay, sweetie? you seem upset."

"i'm fine, momma." i assured as i moved to lay my head on her shoulder.

if she knew what was happening to me, she'd find some way to blame herself for it. i can't tell her.

"are you sure?" she asked as she ran her hand through my hair.

"mhm." i hummed.

"okay," she sighed. "me and your father are about to leave; are you gonna be okay here by yourself?"

"yeah," i nodded. "i'm eighteen. i'm not a little kid."

"i know," she slumped her shoulders. "ugh, i can't believe your graduating in just a month. are you excited?"

"very. i can't wait to be done with school." i said truthfully.

"you'll miss it when you're older." she chuckled.

i looked at her like she was crazy. "why would i miss hell on earth? i think not."

she let out a small laugh as she rolled her eyes. "okay, well, i've got to get going. i'll see you later, alright? i love you."

"alright. i love you too."

i walked to the kitchen and looked in the freezer. thankfully, there was a bag of pizza rolls in there. i grabbed it and walked over to the cabinet to get a plate for them.

the day after billie had slapped me, she came back to my house. i had told her that i had no clue that icsis was gonna be there, and i was just doing my job.

she had made a comment about how me and icsis had seemed to be talking about something other than her food, which i had lied and told her that we weren't.

i also lied when she asked me if that was the only time i've talked to icy since she asked me not to.

i just didn't want to get hit again.

honestly, if i wasn't terrified of getting beat, i would leave her in a heartbeat.

i jumped as i heard someone knock on the door. i let out a small breath before going to the front door.

i opened it and raised my brows as i saw that it was cleo.

"hey," i greeted. "what are you doing here?"

"well, i figured if i just showed up, you wouldn't be able to say no to hanging out," she explained. "though before i got here, i was scared that i was gonna end up walking in on you and billie fucking."

"oh my god." i laughed.

i opened my arms for a hug, and she stepped into them. i bit my lip as she wrapped her arm right over the bruise on my side, trying my best to not show any discomfort or that it hurt.

"i'm sorry i haven't been hanging out with you," i apologized. "i've just— there's been a lot going on."

all i ever seem to do now is apologize.

"i get it, it's cool," she shrugged, then looked around as she stepped inside. "where is billie anyways?"

"i think she's hanging out with gio or something," i told her. "i dunno."

"i'm surprised she's not over here." cleo commented.

"i need space, bro. she's always trying to hangout, but it's too much sometimes." i ranted.

she frowned. "so... i'm guessing y'all aren't good then?"

"we're fine."

"sage... if there's something going on, let me know, okay? i'm here for you." she told me sincerely.

"yeah, i know. thank you."

"of course."

i walked back to the kitchen and she followed me. i opened the microwave and pulled out the plate of pizza rolls.

"is that the pepperoni ones?" she questioned.

"yeah," i answered as i grabbed one off of my plate and held it out to her. "you want one?"

"hell yeah, i do." she nodded as she grabbed it from me.

i continued to eat, while she talked.

"oh, so, uh... gio asked me out on a date, and i kinda agreed." she admitted.

i looked at her with an 'are you serious' look.

"okay, here me out!" her eyes widened. "he's never took anyone out on a date and he genuinely seems to like me! he's like... really cool once you get to know him, and he can be really sweet too."

"i mean... i guess if you really like him, then go for it. i was really rooting for you to play the fuck outta him though." i snorted.

"yeah, i came up with that plan before i actually knew him. i don't know if i can go through with it anymore." she pouted.

"like i said, if you really like him, then go for it."

she pursed her lips as she thought. "i think i will."

"do it." i grinned.

once i finished eating my pizza rolls, i walked to my room. she followed me.

i laid in my bed, while she sat at the foot of it. she raised a brow.

"you look tired as hell."

"because i am."

"go to sleep then. you need it." she told me.

"i'm not gonna sleep while you're here to hangout." i deadpanned.

"then i'll go to sleep with you, the fuck?" she playfully scoffed as she moved over towards me to lay beside me.

"okay, bet. you best fucking cuddle me though; you're not about to sleep in my bed and then not cuddle me."

"c'mere then." she opened her arms.
