Chapter 1
"Jewel, why is your head so tough? I already decided that you will not enter that military academy!" Sigaw niya sa akin.
I rolled my eyes. Another useless conversation with my parents, ano pa nga ang maganda sa umaga kung ganito lang din naman ang gigisingan ko. Sana hindi na lang ako nagising.
Pero kumalma ako. Kailangan kong ma-combinse si mommy.
"Mommy, please? Just one year, if I fail, I'll enroll at La Salle."
I couldn't been use to her stares from this day.
"It's still a no Jewel."
"Daddy? Aren't you going to say something?" I gave him my puppy eyes but he sighed and points at mommy.
"Just follow what your mommy says." Ano?! He is just going to let mommy do all the decision making? This is toxic.
"I'm leaving this damn house! If you won't help me pursue my dream, then, you won't be there when I succeed."
I walk harshly towards my room.
Hindi ko nga napansin na nandito sila sa tabi ko; in my eighteenth years of excistance, they never even ask what I want.
I will never cry for the people who don't deserve my tears.
Narinig ko ang pag-bukas ng pinto.
"Jewel, don't do this anak. Mommy said, acting nice.
"No! Well, I'm sick of you both comparing me to her—"
"Because you are nowhere near your sister! Why can't you just be like her?"
I was stunned. I saw Jessica, running to our distance, giving me her manipulative grin. I stepped forward.
"Because I'm not her, mommy." Sumbat ko sa kanya.
She sighed and hold my arm pero umilag ako.
"Take any course, at any school, just.... just not military academy."
My eyes narrowed.
"Why not?"
"You're just a girl, and a girl doesn't do those things."
Umiling ako, binuhat ang aking maleta.
"I'm not just a girl mommy, I'm a woman." I boldly said without even thinking.
