2: Romeo

Waking up in an unfamiliar cabin seconds away from toppling over was surely not what Carl was expecting when his eyes fluttered open. An ocher hue of light poured into the room blinding his visuals and for a moment he was very confused. Then he remembered being abducted in the parking lot!

It was around 5pm or 6pm but Carl was only guessing. He tried moving around but to his shock, he was duct-taped to a chair in three different areas: his ankles, his thighs and his chest. His mouth was duct-taped too.

Jesus how the fuck am I supposed to breathe in this unreasonable position?

Carl couldn’t help but notice that his hands were also bound. It was as if his kidnapper wanted to kill him slowly by cutting off his blood circulation. He immobilized his whole body so he could work on freeing his hands first then the rest would eventually fall in place from there.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” A raspy yet calm voice sifted through the empty space. It was definitely one of those voices that could get someone’s nerve impulses firing. It contained a certain texture, rhythm, timbre and levels of cockiness that Carl reckoned as attractive. He wasn’t close to gay or questioning his heterosexuality but he wasn’t oblivious either. “The more you fiddle with those binds, the more they will tighten around your wrists.”

It took a few seconds for Carl to register what Romeo standing in front of him was saying to him. He cocked a brow, no words coming out of him since his mouth was still duct-taped.

In front of Carl was a table piled with assorted appliances used for torture—a blowtorch, a drill, a stun gun—plus two glaring floodlights. Romeo moved swiftly to remove Carl’s gag so he could have the privilege to speak when required to. Behind the floodlights stood his initial kidnapper stoic as ever, other than that there was nothing but pure darkness.

What time was it anyway?

“So, Morrison.” Carl blinked at Romeo’s toneless voice. “I think it’s time I stop bothering to make you feel comfortable since you’re now fully awake. Jesus, you sleep like the dead.”

Carl stared at Romeo for a while, and chuckled amusedly. “So this is your best way of making someone feel comfortable? Jeez, I was expecting a little pampering. Like nice full body massage which comes with a chilled cosmopolitan, you get the gist?”

Romeo shrugged. “Massages were not on the table, if you’re lucky maybe next time.”

“Does it automatically mean you and me will be going on a second date?” Carl drawled, keeping an intent gaze on Romeo’s reaction. “You didn’t even tell me your name. That’s rude you know?”
