Ch. 6: The proposal

Like every other time he’d met Aiden, the man looked frustratingly classy and tonight was not any different. The whole keffiyeh and agal thing going on made Aiden appear to be way more intimidating than he already was. Carl shouldn’t have been so transfixed by the man’s beauty, but he found himself struggling to tear his gaze away from Aiden’s face.

Holy hell he’s gorgeous.

Thank God the Iraqi wasn’t looking his direction at that very moment otherwise Carl would’ve come off as a straight up creep. Suddenly Aiden felt eyes fixed on him, he tilted his head to face the culprit, a scowl firmly intact. “You’re ten minutes late, Morrison.”

Carl shrugged as he claimed a seat opposite to Aiden muttering, “traffic.”

Aiden’s lips twitched at the vehemence clipped in Carl’s tone. “That’s just bullshit and you know it.”

“Believe whatever you want,” Carl’s voice came out huskier than he’d intended. Those dazzling silver eyes did inexplicable certain things to him. “Now let’s get this meeting started, shall we?”

A few minutes later both had managed to order drinks and food. Aiden’s choice of the night was one of the best Korean cuisines in town. The atmosphere of the restaurant… so laid back, the high beaming ceilings and eclectic décor was also working wonders for the ambience.

Tension sizzled between the two men and Carl felt his hands starting to get a little bit sweaty. The intensity of raw energy flowing between them completely subdued him—it was highly unnerving.

The night was way too comfortable in a way that made him nervous. He watched as Aiden worked his chop sticks with poise, swallowing on his japonica rice, and the way his throat moved wasn’t supposed to be so damn appealing.

Carl blew out a strained breath before sipping on his wine in an attempt to cool down. Stop looking at him like that! “Why did you invite me here, Aiden?”

For a moment they stared at each other wordlessly and Carl wondered what Aiden was thinking. The Iraqi then cleared his throat, breaking off their staring contest. “I would like to drop my initiative of buying you out, instead, I’ll be investing millions in your current projects but only under one condition.”

“Of course there’s always a catch.” Carl looked at the other man through piercing eyes, heart beating in staccato. The anticipation was killing him. “What is it that you want then?”

“Marry me, Morrison.”

Carl instantly choked on his own saliva. He forced himself to bite his tongue just in case he was hearing things differently. “Pardon me, what?”
