EMMA'S POV
Norman and I were on the stairs talking while the other kids were in the shared rooms. "First, let's get our hands on some rope. I have an idea where it might be. I'll see you tonight at 10:00 in the hallway." Norman said turning away as he finished talking to go up the stairs. I quickly grabbed his arm stopping him from continuing.
"Wait!" I quickly said pulling him down some. "They have tracking devices on us, so what if they have cameras or listening devices?" I whispered to him with one hand still on his arm and the other by my mouth. Once finished talking I take my hand away and get back.
"It's all right. I looked around a bit, and there was nothing like that here." Norman reassured. I was shocked by what he said.
"When did you do that?" I asked him.
"But I should have known. That the security measures aren't in the building, but in us." He stated turning his back to me to face the stairs. As he was talking he went up the stairs with me following behind.
As we reach the top and go down the hallway I started to talk again, "Do you think Mama knows already? That we went all the way to the wall..." I ask.
"I don't think so. I mean, she didn't know about the other time, either. When we went to deliver Little Bunny." Norman explained.
"That's true." I agreed. We stopped walking when we were by pictures colored by kids put up in the hallway.
"Mama doesn't know where we are at all times," Norman said shaking his head while waving his hand around. "She'll know our location only when she checks. She knows that Little Bunny was brought to the gate by someone other than Conny. But I don't think she figured out who it was. Or else she wouldn't have warned us in such a roundabout way." Norman had explained.
"I see." As soon as I said that we heard another voice that belongs to Don.
"Hey, Norman! Do you think you have a second? The clock isn't working and m/n isn't in our room." Don called out from the other end of the hallway.
"Okay, I'll take a look," Norman said back waving him off. "It'll be okay, Emma," he said while I was still looking at Don. But I turned around once he said that. "We're not being suspected," Norman reassured while going with Don to fix the clock. I stopped smiling once he was out of sight. I turned back to look straight ahead then averted my gaze to the wall with the drawings all over it.
I did notice one missing though in a space where a drawing by Conny use to be. I touched the black space on the wall. "Conny." I let out sadly closing my eyes. The next thing I knew Mama was standing right beside crouched down a little looking right at me with a smile I use to think was so loving now turned scary.
