Leah Grace Jackson

I pressed my ear up against the door, straining to hear more. My parents were inside their room, 'discussing something important and for grown-ups only' as my mom had said before shutting the door in my face. Our really close friends, the Grace's, Valdez's, and Zhang's, who were practically family, were over and all of the parents were talking in the room.

"When are they going to be done talking! I'm hungry!" 7 year old Sky Grace said loudly. We all turned around and shushed her. She was silent at once. Emily Zhang pressed her ear next to mine and we both listened. I was 9 and Emily was 7, like Sky. My brother Luke ran around in circles chasing Sky's brother Brendan, and Charlie Valdez. I called the girls together and we huddled up.

"How do you plan on listening?" Sky's sister Juliet asked me. She was only 3, and didn't know too much on spying. I was a pro. I tossed by black curly hair to one side and leaned forward. My sister Silena who was only 4 stood by the door to her room, debating with herself whether she leaves us to go play or stays with us to be mature. Spoiler alert- she stays.

"Let's just set up a formation against the wall. Sky, Emily, Adam, Brendan, and I will line up on the door somehow. Charlie, Juliet, Andrew, Luke, and Silena can line up against the wall," I announced. They nodded and Adam and Charlie gave me a military salute.

"Sir yes sir," Charlie said. I glared at them with my steely gray eyes and they cowered in fear.

"I mean, ma'am yes ma'am!" I nodded, showing it was better and took my position on the door. The youngest one here was Juliet, and she was only three, so she probably had no idea what was going on. I had an idea.

"Anyone who doesn't want to spy, go to Silena's room and play." Nobody moved. I smiled, happy they all wanted to stay. I didn't need to have my ear up against the door for what I heard next.

"Why? Are you insane?!" my aunt Piper screamed. Sky turned to me and I shrugged.

"No! They needed to know, so we did what was best for our children and told them! I highly recommend you do that too, Piper," my mom yelled back. Silena, Luke and I all looked at each other. What did she tell us that Aunt Piper hadn't told Brendan, Sky, Andrew, and Juliet?

"Guys, if you're going to keep fighting, be my guest, but the rest of us are leaving," someone said. I realized what this meant a second too late. We had all been pressed up against the door. And when it opened, we all fell into the room. I was on the bottom of a huge pile of kids. Once everyone rolled off of me, I looked up and ended up looking into gray eyes just like my own.

"Leah, would you like to explain what this is?" My mom asked me. I shook my head.

"Emily?" She asked. Emily shook her head. My mom went along the line.

"Sky?" Nothing.

"Luke?" Nothing

"Brendan? Charlie? Adam? Andrew?" She asked everyone until she came to little Silena and Juliet.

"Can you explain what's going on for Mommy?" She asked. Juliet started to say something and my mom interrupted.

"Sorry, Mommy for Silena. Juliet- can you tell Aunt Annabeth what's going on?" Silena shook her head.
