"Hurricane Agatha is continuing its steady march towards Kildare Island on the Outerbanks of North Carolina..." the reporter on the TV said.

"Bro this is dope! We have to surf the surge!" Ellory announced to Pope.

"One hundred percent."

The two teens waited for John B to arrive back at the small house before convincing him to go with them. They grabbed their boards and headed for the beach. The wind whipped Ellory's long hair around as dark clouds marched towards the island. The ocean seemed to be angry as large waves pelted against the shore.

"Those aren't surfable waves bro." Pope said to John B.

The girl grinned up at John B and the two took off towards the water leaving Pope behind. They attempted to surf as many waves as possible before giving up and sitting on their boards. As Ellory took in the magnificent storm barreling towards her, she noticed a small white boat battling against the rough water. She shot John B a wary glance knowing he had seen the boat too. It wasn't going to make it through the storm.

That night, JJ and Ellory slept at the Chateau. Neither wanted to make the trek home in the rain. The teens often spent the night here since there was no adult to tell them to leave. The two were happy to share the pull out couch anytime it was needed.

There weren't very many things in the world that scared Ellory. But of the few things that did, the most irrational was her fear of thunder. For as long as she could remember she had been terrified by the loud claps that shook the world around her. Her dad had been one of the few people that could calm her down during the sleepless nights. In his absence, JJ had tried his best to help her.

"El, are you ok?" JJ questioned when the girl's small body shuddered at a particularly loud clap of thunder.

"I'm fine. Just the thunder."

"I know." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder causing her to turn around and look at him. She felt safer immediately. The two looked at each other for a long time, blocking out the storm brutalizing their island, and when Ellory began to fall asleep, JJ pulled her into his chest and hugged her tight, hoping he could give her the sleep she needed.

"Yo, you guys been outside?" A voice broke through Ellory's sleep.

"I have polio bro. I can't walk." JJ responded his arm still wrapped tightly around the small girl.

"Yeah me too. It's contagious." she mumbled sleepily.

Eventually, the brunette woke up enough to convince the shirtless boy next to her to survey the damage outside. They sleepily followed John B out the back door and were shocked by what they saw. One of the trees was completely uprooted from the ground, branches littered the ground everywhere, and debris covered everything in sight.
