"Don't let them get in your head bro. There's three of them and two of us. That's some typical Kook shit right there." JJ said. All of the pogues save for John B were at Heyward's helping stock.
"Hell ya."
"What was your thought process using your head?" Ellory questioned Pope.
"I don't know man. I just kind of acted off instinct. I was a cornered animal."
Heyward walked around the corner followed by deputy Shoupe. "Hey Pope. There's someone here to see you."
"Evening officer." All four pogues looked around frightened for what would happen next.
"I have an arrest warrant for felony destruction of property."
"What?!" Kie exclaimed.
"Keep your hands on the counter where I can see 'em."
Ellory stepped in front of Shoupe. "What are you doing?"
"Young lady, out of my way."
"Whoa. Shoupe, what'd he do?" Heyward intervened.
"Look at the warrant." As the officer cuffed Pope, Ellory and her friends screamed for him to be let go. She watched as Pope's face dropped and fear set in.
"You can't arrest him!" Ellort screamed as the walked outside.
At that very moment JJ did one of the dumbest, but most caring things he's ever done in his life. "It wasn't him!" The blonde boy screamed. "It was me."
Ellory spun around. "JJ. No."
JJ approached the officer. "He tried to talk me out of it, but I was mad cause he'd just been beaten up. I was so sick of those assholes from Figure Eight that I lost my shit." To the side Ellory felt tears threaten to fall out of her eyes. "I can't let you take the blame for something I did. You've got too much to lose."
"JJ what're you doing?" Pope pleaded.
"JJ?" Ellory quietly grabbed the boys arm.
He turned to her and whispered that he was sorry before telling the rest of his story. "I'm telling the truth. For once in my goddamn life, I'm gonna tell the truth. I took his old man's boat too."
"What the hell?"
"He's a good kid. You know where I'm from." Everyone who knew JJ knew his family was full of criminals. "This was all me."
Shoupe turned to Pope. "That's the whole truth?"
To the side, JJ nodded his head subtly. "Yeah thay about covers it" Shoupe cuffed JJ and pulled him into the police car.
"Shit!" Pope threw his hat on the ground and stormed off. Kie and Ellory looked at each other not knowing what to do.
