Ellory felt the wind rip through her hair as she sprinted towards the water, her surf board under her arm. "Hey save some waves for us!" She screamed.
She had ignored JJ and Pope the whole way back to the Chateau to find John B and Kie out in the water already surfing. She ran ahead of the boys and paddled out to her other friends. Immediately she was able to catch great waves showing off her talent. It was clear to anyone who could see her that Ellory had a knack for surfing. Sure her friends were great at it too, but the way she effortlessly glided on the waves moving her board back and forth hitting amazing tricks grabbed everyone's attention. She seemed to become one with the board and the ocean. Off to the side JJ watched in awe as the girl rode a wave past him. He admired the way her hair flew behind her and the large grin spread across her face. The few days had put a lot of stress on him when it came to he girl. He noticed himself acting more protective over her and he couldn't pin point the reason.

After a long afternoon of surfing, the pogues ended up on the hammocks outside of the Chateau. They were sitting silently enjoying the night. JJ and Kie were sharing one hammock while the other three sat in chairs next to them.
"You really think it's out there?" Pope broke the silence, "Like no bullshit?"
"After hearing my dad's voice on the tape? I think I do." John B said.
John B and Pope did the handshake that was shared between the five friends. "There's only one way to find out."
"Look we're gonna find it. Even JJ believes." Kie turned towards the boys.
"Oh my god JJ. Do you really believe?" John B gasped.
"Wait are we talking about four mil?"
"Four hundred mil." Ellory mumbled breaking her silence. She was still mad at the boy and was trying not to laugh at the conversation being had around her.
"I do believe. Goodnight Bird." JJ turned towards the ocean as the other four teens got up and headed towards the chateau.
"Goodnight birdshit."
JJ threw up his middle finger. "El. Wait please"
Ellory turned around ignored the snide mumbled of her friends and walked back over to the blonde boy. She sat down on his hammock next to him not saying anything.
JJ took in a nervous breath. "Look El. I'm sorry ok. I know I went overboard. Just please. I'll stop I promise."
"JJ. I know you're sorry. But you can't leave me out of the loop. Ok? No more secrets between us."
"Ok I promise." The blonde boy held up his pinky finger and watched as the girl next to him wrapped her small finger around his.
"Why do you suddenly care so much about people hurting me?" Ellory questioned.
JJ froze. "I guess I uh just don't like seeing you get hurt so often like you have been."
"Ok." The brunette mumbled, laying down and getting comfortable next to the blonde boy. He watched as her chest began to rise and fall slower and felt her body relax next to him.
"And because I love you." JJ whispered, secretly wishing she had been awake to hear him say those words.

The next morning, the Pogues took Heyward's boat out to where the Royal Merchant supposedly had gone down. Ellory was giddy with excitement. As she stood next to JJ and watched him steer the boat, she took in his appearance. He looked extra good that day with his long sleeve shirt, baseball hat, and black out sunglasses. She had never caught herself thinking this much about his appearance.
"Stop her right here JJ." John B yelled from the back of the boat. Ellory made her way out onto the deck as the boat stopped to help Kie with the tether. They had to keep it right where they wanted it if they wanted this to work. John B began shouting directions at JJ as they attempted to stay in one spot.
"One hundred feet!" Kie called out as they reached the first marking on the tether.
"And to quote the hobbit. Down down to goblin town. Down down you go my last."
"You're such a nerd Pope!" Ellory shouted with a grin.
As the lowered the drone farther and farther into the depths of the ocean, the wind began to pick up and thunder could be heard in the distance. Behind them a massive storm was barreling towards them worrying the brunette girl. The waves began to pick up throwing the teens side to side.
"John B there's too much current we're gonna lose it!" Kie and Ellory held onto the tether as tight as they could trying not to be pulled into the rough ocean. As the reached the last few feet of the tether, the drone finally hit the bottom of the ocean. Kie and Ellory ran over to the monitor and saw something becoming clear on the screen.
They watched as the drone passed over the ship three times, the metal detector not sensing anything. "Guys let's pull it up it's not there!" JJ screamed.
"Shut up!" Kie yelled back. As her friends continued to argue, Ellory angrily stormed over to the tether and began hauling the drone back up. The tether pulled hard against the girl, the current trapping it in the ocean. The waves began to grow rougher and the small girl was rocked side to side with the boat. None of her friends seemed to take notice of her struggles as they were arguing. The yelling behind her pissed her off even more and Ellory tugged on the tether hard. Right as she tugged, the boat hit a large wave that pulled the drive farther under the water. And with it, Ellory.

The cold, dark water engulfed Ellory's small body and thrashed her side to side. In her fall she let go of the tether completely loosing her only tool to stay by the boat. As the water threw her around she struggled to find the surface. The cold water seemed to reach out towards her and pull her down. She couldn't see or hear anything. The only thought in her head was the need to breath. It suddenly became too much and she attempted to get a breath in her confused state. She opened her mouth and inhaled the salty water. As the ocean seemed to take control of her body, her head grew fuzzy and her confusion doubled. She could feel herself start to loose consciousness. Right before the darkness took her, Ellory felt a strong pair of arms wrap around her torso.

"Ellory!" Kie's horrified scream caused JJ turn away from his assignment of steering the ship and sprint out to his friends. They were all lined up by the edge of the boat staring down at the water. All but one.
"What happened!" JJ demanded.
"I don't know. One second she was pulled the tether and the next second she was gone." The rough waves made it nearly impossible to keep track of anything in the water. JJ stared hopelessly at the ocean hoping to spot the girl. He held his breath until he noticed a small hand appear above the surface before submerging again. He stripped off his shirt and dove in, not caring for a second about how dangerous it was. He pushed through the waves until he reached where the hand had been. Before he dove under the surface he could hear his friends calling for him to save her. As his head submerged under the water, he prayed the girl would be somewhere beneath him.
