One thing most people knew about Anna Fay was as that she was power hungry. She would do whatever it took to be rich and powerful again. Because of this, no one questioned the possibility of an ulterior motive when Rafe Cameron showed up on the porch of the Fay household and demanded that he escort Ellory to the Midsummers party that night. Midsummers was an island tradition that the Kooks attended and the Pogues worked.
"Sweetie come here." Ellory had just walked in the back door of her small house to see her mother talking to Rafe Cameron. "Rafe is here to see you."
"Ya no thanks." The girl began to walk to her room.
"Ellory Fay. Come here." Her mother grew angry. "Rafe has offered to take you to Midsummers tonight and you're going to go."
"Me? Go with him? Ya right." Ellory laughed.
Rafe approached the girl. "El. Come with me. It'll be fun."
"You don't have a choice." Ellory stormed off to her room immediately texting Kie. She knew she had to attend the party so she didn't make her mother mad but she also knew there was something else going on.
After a long afternoon of moping and being pissed off at her mother, Ellory made her way to the Carerra household where they offered to help her get ready for the party.
"I can't believe you're going with Rafe." Kie groaned.
"I don't know how I'm supposed to put up with him all night. JJ is gonna be pissed." Ellory stopped what she was saying realizing she messed up.
"JJ? Why is JJ gonna be pissed?" Kie had a sly smile on her face. "Did something happen between you two?"
"Well, we may or may not have kissed. And then he told me he loved me."
"Holy shit El! I knew it! You guys are so obvious about your feelings for each other." Ellory groaned and moved away from the girl.
The two friends continued their banter back and forth as they got ready. Ellory had never had much experience putting on makeup so Kie helped her apply the basics to make her "presentable" to the Kooks. She also helped the girl twist her hair into a loose Dutch braid and weave flowers in. As soon as their hair and makeup was finished, the girls changed into their dresses. Ellory did a double take when she saw herself. The long, flowy light pink dress was nothing like she had ever worn before. She hadn't seen herself dressed up in many years and she didn't recognize herself.
"Damn you clean up nice." Kie said from behind her.
"Shut up." The two girls made their way downstairs and got into Kie's family car. Ellory's mother wasn't invited to the party so Ellory had to tag along with someone.

When the Fay girl and the Carrera family arrived at the country club, they were met with tons of people dressed in soft colors and bizarre head pieces. Ellory didn't see Rafe anywhere so she decided to pretend like she wasn't his date. Off to the side, the girls spotted Pope working with his dad.
