TW: ABUSE

Gon supposed something was wrong when he saw Hisoka tremble and fall away upon seeing a puppet made by Omokage. It was a strange man, somebody that the younger hunter had never seen before, but he was sure that the magician definitely had- Especially so when for once, he did not fight back. He cowered away as the puppet lifted its arm, hand rising slowly so it could give the red-head a hard slap. Even then he didn't fight back, simply walking backwards against the cold wall as the world closed in onto him.

Gon didn't miss Hisoka's quickened breathing, or the difficulty he seemed to be having with swallowing, the way he flinched now at every little movement, or the way it looked as if he could not see anything else. He did not move from his place when he was slapped and kicked, instead collapsing, curling into himself, and hiding his head in his knees. The boy stood there, unsure of how to get Hisoka out of this state, so he set on battling their opponent by himself because he was sure that if he were to get hurt, the magician would see this and rush to his aid in seconds like usual. It did take a while, and luckily Gon did not get hurt but Hisoka was still cowering against the wall.

"Hisoka.. It's over now, we should leave.."

There wasn't an answer.

"Please say something? I don't know what happened back there but we really need to go."

Again, the jester's only answer was silence- With some whimpering. Only after some more prying did Gon hear something from him, and he started to regret coming here when he did.

"Don't- Don't hit me, please.."

"Why would I..?" The boy whispered, sitting by his side now.

"Please, don't touch me-"

"Not again.. Not again..."

"Was it that puppet, Hisoka?"

"Get away from me, please.."

Gon didn't say anything after that, but he wasn't just going to leave the magician here like this, suffering. He wasn't sure why the man was reacting like this but he had a feeling it was connected to that puppet, and so he didn't question it. He knew that Hisoka's past was quite a sensitive topic and he didn't like forcing him for answers when it came to those things. Sharing something that he was sure must've been hurtful would take time and Gon didn't mind at all. Aunt Mito had taught him patience and kindness, when it came to the clown he would still treat him with care no matter how much pain he'd caused to others because surely, surely he'd caused pain for himself as well.
