It had all happened so quickly, the way Hisoka's downfall had played out. It only took seconds for the enemy's fist to plummet through the magician's stomach, send him flying and crashing against the water tower. There was nobody to call out to, he was too high up and Gon was the only one watching. But he was only a child, there was nothing he could've done to prevent it. Even if he were to try and bring himself back it'd only cause him agony due to the gaping hole through his body. He was sure that there wasn't any way he'd live with wounds like this.. But amidst all the blood and his ragged breathing the stars looked beautiful in the night sky, twinkling much brighter than ever before. Hisoka supposed his vision must be starting to blur.

Then came the running, the sound of Gon hopping over to where he was and the gentle sobbing that came afterwards. He wanted to hold the boy, tell him everything was going to be fine just as he always did, but he couldn't, and it wouldn't be okay. He faltered a little, feeling Gon's hands wrap around his frail and mangled body, it hurt him more than the wound did but he didn't mind, sinking into the embrace as it was the only thing he could do. He wanted to keep the boy safe somehow, so he gathered his strength and started to pour every last bit of his own life energy into his palm. Gon didn't say anything, he knew what Hisoka was doing and even if he didn't want to believe it, he knew deep down that he wasn't going to live through this.

Hisoka lifted a weak hand up to Gon's chest, holding it there firmly with a sigh. He felt bad as he watched Gon take in all the life energy he'd been given, not because he wouldn't be there to see his power grow but because he knew it must've hurt to receive it all so suddenly like that. But perhaps this way he'd be able to connect with Gon from the afterlife, watch over him if the heaven's allowed, but he doubted he'd be going anywhere kind. But Gon was sweet, holding him a little tighter even as the Nen coursing through his body was making his muscles ache and his eyes start to droop out of exhaustion. He wouldn't let Hisoka go alone.

"I hope you'll go somewhere nice, Hisoka.." Gon mumbled, "I don't want you to go.. I know that- You don't want to leave me either.."

"But I'll be okay, Hisoka.. I'll take care of Illumi! And myself too.. I promise, so please don't be sad."

Hisoka was struggling to keep his heavy eyes open, and his breathing was growing slower. But he smiled despite the festering wound on his stomach, and he managed to choke something- A poor excuse for a voice, out of his scarred throat.

"Y- You should- Go.."

"I don't want to leave you here.. You deserve a proper burial, or just- Something nicer than this..!" Gon spoke quickly, but Hisoka mustered to shake his head, his smile not changing for a moment.

"Y- You need time.. Get used to the power up.." Hisoka chuckled softly, and blood spilled from his lips, "Go.."

"Not yet.. C- Can you talk a little more..?" Gon whispered, "I know it hurts but.."

"I know.." Hisoka closed his eyes now, "T- Thank you.. Gon.. I love you, okay..?"

"I love you too, dad." The boy spoke quietly now, and even if it wouldn't leave his mind for days he continued to hold onto the magician, or whatever was left of him. Only when the clown went limp did he scream out in despair, grief filling his senses.

But Hisoka would want him to be happy, and so he tried.

A breeze grazing his back, gentle as a warm hug, after Hisoka had passed was enough to bring Gon to his senses. He didn't want to leave his body here but he had no choice knowing that the magician wanted him to leave and run away so he wouldn't get caught up with that monster that had killed him.

So he ran, and ran as far as his legs would carry him, gradually towards Hisoka's apartment, hand banging desperately on the door. He hoped Illumi was home, and when he revealed himself by opening the door Gon fell into his arms choking out broken cries.

The words shook both of them, and Gon couldn't manage anything else out when he told Illumi what happened, words as quick as the opponent had been,

"Hisoka is dead."

(if you want a happy ending: illumi and gon begged killua to have alluka heal hisoka, it worked and they lived happily ever after the end.)
