-Ava's POV-

I woke up feeling decidedly better than I did in the night before. I got dressed and walked down the stairs for breakfast.

Feyre immediately came over and pulled me into a hug.

"I'm glad you slept though," she whispered to me.

"I'm glad to, thank you for saving me," I whispered back.

It was just us and Rhys up, so we ate breakfast together.

"Ava, we found something out last night and we need to tell you," Rhys told me.

I looked up; eyes narrowed slightly.

"We think you might be a shape shifter," Feyre told me, holding up a single feather.

"Shape shifter, as in, I can turn into other things?" I asked, eyes wide.

"Maybe, we don't know, but we want you to try learning alongside translating the rest of the book," Rhys explained.

"Definitely, can I try now?" I asked, looking between them.

"Go for it," Feyre told me, and I stood.

I thought of what I wanted to do when I was younger. I either wanted angel wings or a mermaids tale. Everyone here had wings so that was boring, I imagined myself with a tail to match my eyes.

I let out a yelp as I fell backwards, hitting my head in the floor.

I sat up and looked down, I most definitely had a tail, this was so cool.

"I'd say she is a shifter," Feyre laughed.

"This is so cool!" I exclaimed.

I tried lifting the fin off the floor and found it was actually pretty easy to move.

"What the fuck!" Cassian exclaimed as him Mor and Azriel all walked in.

"Hi guys, it turns out I'm a shape shifter," I said, grinning a little sheepishly.

"No shit," Mor muttered.

"Pretty tail," Az commented.

"Thank you, I tried to get it to match my eyes," I replied, looking back down at it.

"I'd say you succeeded, it's stunning!" Mor said as she examined me.

"Are you all awake?" Amren called out.

"We're in the dining room," Rhys called back.

She walked in but stopped short at the sight of me.

"Why is Ava on the floor with a tail?" She asked, surprisingly calm.

"Found out I'm a shape shifter," I told her, shrugging.

"Was this an accident or on purpose?" She asked, eyes narrowing.

"I couldn't decide between wings or a tail for my first go, most of them have wings so I decided on a tail," I explained.

"How did you figure it out?" She asked.

I looked to Feyre to answer that one.

"I did, Ava had a nightmare and I saw her mid shift when I went in to help her," she explained quickly.

Everyone's eyes snapped to me.

"I'm fine, you lot are so territorial," I sighed.

"Want to try swimming Ava?" Rhys asked, breaking up the tension.
