I made it to my truck just as he was trying to break the window to get in. I was screaming to the top of my lungs for him to leave me alone, but he broke the windshield just as I had the truck moving. I had thrown it in reverse and was driving like a crazy woman trying to getting away from him. The last I saw of him, he had cut his arm on the glass pretty good. I was flying into town as hard as pa ole truck would go when I passed Andy , with no time to stop I went directly to the sheriffs office. Maybe Mr. Poston could help me this time. As I explained to the sheriff all that had happen in the last three days a worried look came over his face.
He said “he would send a deputy with me to my house to investigate, and would set up a watch around my house as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile Andy was coming through the door of the office to learn all that had happened.
He said “Kale was distracted when he fell off the roof. He had saw a strange green truck park in the back pasture. It was to far to tell who it was or what they were doing there.” he also said “Kale would be out of work for a good while.”
My luck sure needed to get better, at the house I explain in detail all that had happen while the deputy took notes and pictures. Andy decided to stay with me that night he wasn't taken no for an answer this time. I was secretly grateful. We spent the evening playing monopoly and drinking some of pa home made wine, boy did it have a kick. I can't remember how long it had been since I laughed so much. I sure needed to release some tension. Andy made things seem so much better. I wish I knew how to tell him, how much his friendship meant to me. Instead he leaned in and kissed me, soft at first then with a hungry passion, then he pulled back and stopped. I was speechless I had been kissed before but never like this. I was shocked but wanted more. Then he did that stupid thing a good man does that's had decent raising an apologized.
I looked at him and said “you didn't do nothing I didn't want. I'm glad it happen.”
He looked at me with the biggest smirk on his face and said “Why little Amy Pickens your flirting with me.”
At that point I could stand it no longer and I pushed him back on the couch and started to kiss and caress him. Needless to say the rest is history.
“I woke up next morning to eggs an bacon frying. God how I had missed that smell. Mom had made it all the time I was growing up. The smell of coffee was overwhelming as I started to crawl out of bed when Andy showed up in the door frame with a tray full of food it looked good but Andy looked even better. I smiled and gratefully took the tray. I ate like there was no tomorrow. Andy reappeared and ask if I was going to get up today it was already 1:oo in the afternoon. I must have been exhausted because I didn't even have one of those nightmares that had plague me.
Being home was good for me and so was Andy. As the day went on nothing unusual happened. Other than the attorneys of Bubba an Holmes had called me for a meeting tomorrow it was set for next week. they must have a busy schedule. So I didn't think much more about it. The barn was coming along well and it would be finished in no time. Denver seemed to have taken a liking to me,because every time I turned around he was there. He even came an sat on the porch during his lunch hour just to talk to me. He seemed to be asking a lot of questioned about ma an pa estate, especially about the timber. he didn't think I noticed but I did. He was worth watching, although he did seem harmless. He was a big burly of a man with black hair like a Indian, some women would find him very attractive but my heart was all Andy's.
