Carla did spark my interest about the annual fall festival. it was always one of my favorite things to do in Gavens. the festival was always fun, hayrides, pumpkin carving, apple toss, the fireworks show at dark. Etc. Outside I could see banners going up advertising the event. I couldn't wait to ask Andy to go with me.
Fall was my favorite time of year, the air just seem to be so brisk and clean, the leaves had already started to change color. As a kid ma and I would pick apples right of the trees. Pa had planted several dozen in the 2 hundred acre woods. I wonder if they were still there? I haven't been in those woods in years. I guess I will just have to go look and see for myself soon.
Right now it looked like another storm was coming, the clouds were growing dark and moving faster. I made a few more stops before heading home, the rain almost caught me. The wind started howling outside or at least that's what it sounded like. The lights would probably go out again, they almost always did during a storm. I notice I was getting low on candles so I started searching high and low.
It started me thinking about those woods and what the lawyers had said. [I would know what pa was talking about] just then as if I was pushed, my elbow hit a board in the wall, and It moved. I gently pulled back the board. This space had been well hidden an had been closed for along time, the spider webs were old and there was dust inside the hole.
I place my hand in there to feel around hoping nothing was left in their to bite me. Sure enough there were papers and some old coins, some of these coins I have never seen. They had strange pictures and writing on them. I took the papers out and thought this must be the papers pa had wanted to take to the lawyers, but had never made it.
