"Can we talk?" He asked. Inspecting my movements as he waited for my answer.

"Oh urm. Sure," I replied, putting my plate down and following him outside. It was late, probably an hour or so until midnight. The dads had set up the fireworks at the end of the garden, ready to explode at the strike of the clock. We didn't wonder far, staying on the patio. I sat down on the wall, overlooking the Garden that was painted by moonlight as Mattheo stood by me, following my gaze into the night.

"Cord," he broke our silence. I turned to face him. "I was going to write to you." is what he started with.

"So why didn't you?" I asked.

"I-I don't know. I didn't know what to say," he admitted. "You're... you're really driving me crazy, you know that right?"

I chuckled, "how so?"

"Well, you haven't given me an answer," he said. I could tell he was anxious as he paced away from me, running his hands through his hair. "It's been weeks since I asked you,"

"I know," I said. I was trying to fight the urge to smile. I liked seeing him this way, squirming under my control. He was desperate and it was incredibly amusing.

"A-are you smiling right now?" He asked, scoffing in disbelief.

"No" I lied. "Mattheo, you hurt me okay,"

"Yes, I know that and I'm so so sorry," he said. He was standing back in front of me, my hands now in his. Looking down on me as I sat on the wall. "I truly am." I sighed and looked away from him. Looking anywhere but his eyes, looking deep into the darkness. However his fingers found my chin and pulled me back to face him.
"Please Cord, be mine." I didn't say anything but continued to look up at him. He sighed, dropping my chin. "Look, I got this for you, well for us, when we went on our first date a couple of months ago," he said as he took out a small jewelry box from his blazer pocket. I took it from his hands and opened the box up. Inside were two rings. One with a butterfly on and the other with a space for the butterfly to be fitted into, like a jigsaw. I looked up at him with a confused look.
He took the ring with the butterfly on it and took my hand in his, sliding the ring onto my finger. "I know that you're not ready to be mine. But you will be, and in the meantime, I want you to wear this. Once you're ready for me to be your boyfriend, then you can give me mine," he explained. "Okay?"

 "Okay?"
