Cordelia
The next few months at school were nothing but stress, worry and secrecy amongst friends. Mattheo had finally mustered up the courage to tell the rest of the group about our recent discoveries and endeavors, although he just didn't know where to start.
"Alright, why are we all gathered here tonight?" Leon asked as he hauled himself onto his bed next to Lexi. Mattheo thought it best to gather in his room, to avoid any eavesdropping.
"Urm, everyone's here right." Mattheo asked rather timidly. Everyone nodded as they exchanged confused looks. "Ok. Urm, as I'm sure most of you have been aware, Cord and I have been disappearing lately. Often at night."
"I was starting to suspect something seeing your empty bed nearly every night." Leon interjected.
"Yes. Well we've made a recent discovery. A shocking one at that." Mattheo paused and looked at me. I gave him a small smile. "We found my mother."
"What? Your mother's alive?" Draco asked in disbelief, his eyebrows knitted in confusion.
Mattheo nodded. "She was in a house, shielded by a strong magic. We could only get there by portkey." He looked at me again with a nervous gulp. I nodded for him to continue but his gaze held mine in a pleading way. I reached for his hand giving it a small squeeze in order to comfort him. With a small sigh he resumed, "When we went inside, she explained everything that happened. Have you heard of horcruxes?"
Draco, Enzo and Blaise suddenly perked up with interest. "Yes." Enzo said. "A wizard or witch is able to split their soul into different objects, theoretically making them immortal. In order to do so, one must take the life of another. I read about it for an independent study."
"Yeah, I'm sure I read about them somewhere." Blaise said.
"Right, well, that's exactly what they are. A way to split the soul. I discovered that my father had done it... seven times."
"Seven!" Venus exclaimed. "That's insane."
Mattheo scoffed. "That's my father." Venus looked at him with sympathy. "Not only did he do it so many times. One of them... was my mother." The group fell silent, wide eyes peering back at him. I continued to stroke his hand with my thumb, his eyes started to water. "She... urm. She was... I'm sorry I don't think I can do this," he turned around to face the wall, his hand covering his eyes.
I stood up and walked towards him. "Hey," I whispered. He looked at me with strained eyes, "would you like me to continue?" He hesitated before nodding softly.
