Letters and Cellars

Scorpius's POV

There I was on a Friday night, gloomily looking out the window and wondering when I'd be allowed outside again, when I heard a thunder.

That's normal, I thought, but it wasn't like normal thunder. It was especially loud, and I couldn't see any lightning.

Just then, Dad burst into my room. He looked out of breath. "Scorp!" he gasped. "You're still alive!"

"Uh," I said, having no clue what he was talking about, "am I supposed to be dead, or-"

"No time to explain!" Dad cut me off. "Meet me and your mother in the cellar in five."

"But why?" I asked. "What's happening?"

"I'll fill you in later," he said. "Just grab a book or something, since I don't know how long we'll be in there."

"Wha-"

But he went out of the room.

What was going on? I'd never seen Dad look so panicked before. Did something happen at his work, or were there burglars? I shuddered at the thought, then reminded myself that our house was well protected.

Well, I had no choice. I grabbed a random school book, and my wand just in case, then made my way to the cellar.

I just hoped that we'd be safe.

Lily's POV

"Give that back!" I shouted at my older brother as I chased him across the room. "It's mine!"

"Not until you tell me what's in here," Albus teased. He held my secret diary in one hand and a cookie in another.

"Never in a million years!" I protested. "It's mine! Give it!"

"What's the magic word?" Albus asked.

"Which one?"

"Um.." Albus thought for a second. "I actually don't know, I heard it in the Muggle world somewhere."

He stuffed the cookie in his mouth, held my diary high, and ran down the stairs.

I couldn't take it anymore. "MUM!" I shouted. "Albus stole my diary!"

While I knew Mum was out of the house at the Ministry, Albus didn't. I knew it would scare him as Dad was as scary as a kitty cat sleeping on a pillow.

It actually worked. "Ugh, fine!" He groaned. He threw the book up the stairs. "Take it if it's so important to you!"

"It is, and thank you."

Just then, thunder broke. The sound was literally deafening, and I screamed as I took refuge in my room. What can I say? I'm terrified of thunder and lightning.

James burst into the room. "What's wrong, Lils?"

"T-the thunder," I whined. "Make it stop."

"Sure," scoffed James. "Like I could actually do the spell if I knew what it was."

But he still gave me a hug anyways, and told me it would all be better in a few minutes.

I love having James as my brother. He's really caring, whereas Albus is the troublemaker. I also think the reason why Albus is like that is because James is always biased towards me.

I can't complain, though.

"Are you okay?" asked Dad, coming into the room. He saw James sitting next to me on the bed. "I knew you were fine. Can't say the same about the Malfoys, though."

"The Malfoys?" Albus asked from his room across mine. "Is Scorp okay?"

"I really don't know," said Dad, worried. "We need to contact Draco and Astoria somehow, and make sure they're fine. How?"

"Any way I can use my computer?" Albus asked. "Hugo taught me all the hacking tricks."

"Is there a way you can call them?" Dad said.

"Well, I know Scorp has a Zoom account, can I call him on that?"

"I highly doubt that he'd have his computer with him," said Dad. "I guess all we can do is hope."

"But why?" I asked. "What happened to them?"

Dad ignored my questions, and kicked the wall with his toe, frustrated. "I can't stand just waiting, just hoping they're fine. We have to do something."

"I'm not gonna help you unless you tell me what's happening," I said. Dad ignored me, again, and left the room. "Whatever's happening to the Malfoys, they'll get through it," James assured us. "I know they will."

"Yeah," I agreed. "They're pretty tough."

"Woah!" exclaimed Albus from his room. "Look what just came in through the window!"

James and I crossed the hallway into Albus's room. It was a letter. "Are you pranking us?" I asked, just in case.

Albus rolled his eyes at me. "No, it literally just came in!"

"Yeah, I saw it fly in," James agreed.

"What's it say?" I asked.

Albus read it aloud. "To James, Albus and Lily Potter,

You won't be alive for long. Your parents will leave you and you will perish."

There was a long silence.

"Enlightening," said Albus.

"Who's it from?" James asked.

"Dunno," said Albus. "It doesn't say."

"It's so weird, though," I said. "Well, we know this person knows our names, so it has to be someone we know."

"We can't guarantee that," said James. "Almost the entire Wizarding World knows our names."

"Oh, right."

"Should we tell Dad and Mum?" I asked.

"No," said Albus immediately. "They've got a lot on their plate. This letter was addressed to us, so we'll take care of it."

"He's right," said James. "Besides, it could easily be a prank."

"Why do I get the feeling it's not, though?" I asked.

Just then, Albus's pocket buzzed. "The mirror." He took it out. Rose was on the screen. "Albus!" she cried. "James, Lily!"

"What's happened?" Albus asked.

"Molly and Aunt Audrey just called," said Rose. "It's Uncle Percy."

"What about him?"

"He got tested positive for Covid-19."
