We started walking around. I held the map and Harry held the light. I couldn't help but think about our kiss. I had always loved Harry but I have never thought about it that way.
As I thought about it more and more I couldn't help but think how Harry would be good for me. He cared about me and didn't lie to me like Draco always did. Draco... what would he say if he found out?
"Put that light out!" One portrait yelled. I giggled as Harry got red with embarrassment.
"Sorry! Ah!" Normally I would've laughed and kissed him on the cheek but now I felt uncomfortable to. I didn't know what we were. Were we friends? Were we more? I didn't know.
Suddenly footsteps were coming towards us on the map. I looked at the name, Peter Pettigrew. I knew him. He was with my dad. One of his henchmen. But this couldn't be right.
"Harry, look." I said.
"That can't be right he's--" Harry started.
"--Dead.. Yeah I know." Chills ran up my body as the footsteps came closer.
The map showed that he was right next to us. Harry shined his want to his left but Peter was no where to be found. "Watch it there, boy!" Another portrait complained.
"We're trying to sleep here!"
"Yes, we are!"
Peter Pettigrew's footsteps left our hallway, but as he left Snape was headed our way. Harry took the map from my hands. "Mischief managed!" He put it in his jacket and then turned off his light from his wand. "Nox!"
Snape came around the corner and smiled as if he was happy to have someone to punish. "Elizabeth, Potter. What're you doing wandering the corridors at night?"
"We were sleepwalking.." Harry tried to explain.
"Going to the bathroom." I said at the same time.
Snape looked at us like he was laughing at us inside his head. "I thought you were better than this, Elizabeth. Fratinizing with Potter. Ah, and Potter. How extraordinarily like your father you are. He, too, was exceedingly arrogant, struting around the castle-"
"My dad didn't strut. And nor do I. Now, if you don't mind, I would appreciate it if you could lower your wand." Snape caught his eye on the map.
'Turn out your pockets. Turn out your pockets!"
Harry took out the map but it was blank. "What's this."
"Spare bit of parchment..."
"Art project." I reminded myself to stop talking."
"Really... Open it." Harry did so and Snape put his wand to the map. "Reveal your secrets!" Words appeared on the map, but it wasnt the same. "Read it."
"'Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs offer their compliments to Professor Snape and...'"
"Go on."
"'... and request that he keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business.'"
"Why you insolent little-" Professor Lupin came up from behind Snape before he could finish his sentence.
"Professor...?"
"Well, well. Lupin. Out for a little walk in the moonlight, are we?" Snape smirked.
"Harry, Elizabeth? Are you all right?"
"That remains to be seen. I have just now confiscated a rather curious artifact from Mr. Potter and Ms. Riddle." I cringed at that. I knew Snape was mad at me now. Usually, he wouldnt do that. "Take a look, Lupin. This is supposed to be your area of expertise. Clearly, it's full of Dark Magic."
"I seriously doubt it, Severus. It looks to me as if it is merely a parchment designed to insult anyone who tries to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko product. Nevertheless, I shall pursue any hidden qualities it may possess. It is, after all, as you say, my area of expertise. Harry and Elizabeth, would both of you come with me, please? Professor, good night."
Lupin wouldnt talk to us the whole way back to his classroom. Once we got there he looked at us with disappointment. We both were hesitant to go through the door.
"Come in. Now, I haven't the faintest idea how this map came to be in your possession, but quite frankly, I am astounded that you two didn't hand it in. Did it never occur to you that this- in the hands of Sirius Black- is a map to you? Both of you?" I understood his game.
"No, sir." We both said.
He then looked to Harru. "You know, your father never set much store by the rules either. But he and your mother gave their lives to save yours. And gambling their sacrifice by wandering around the castle unprotected,"
"I was protecting him." I said.
Lupin acknowleged what I said but continued. "With a killer on the loose, seems to me to be a pretty poor way to repay them! Now, I will not cover up for you again, Harry. Do you hear me?"
"Yes, sir."
"I want you both of you to return to your dormitory and stay there. And don't take any detours. If you do, I shall know."
"Professor. Just so you know, I don't think the map always works. Earlier on, it showed someone in the castle. Someone I know to be dead." I looked at Harry then back at Professor Lupin, waiting for his reaction.
"Oh, really? Who might that be?"
"Peter Pettigrew." I said for Harry.
"That's not possible."
"It's just what I saw..."
I went up to Professor Lupin and whispered in his ear "Let me watch over him." I made it to where it looked like a hug. I backed up and Lupin nodded at me, allowing me to detour.
"Good night, Professor." Harry and I said. We walked along and passed the hallway to the Slytherin dorms.
"Wasnt that your hallway?" Harry asked.
"Yeah," I said. "Thought I could stay with you tonight. With Pettigrew around?"
"I think it was just a glitch or something."
I stopped and looked at him in the eyes. "Still, theres still that possibility. Please, Harry. Cant I stay with you tonight."
"Yeah," he smiled. We walked a little more until he stopped us again.
"Look, about the kiss... Im sorry. I know you like Draco. I just thought--" I kissed him again.
Once we were done he smiled and we kissed again. I knew then that it was right. I was thinking about Draco when I was clearly meant to be with Harry.
We went back to his room and we both fell asleep with our legs intertwined and my head on his chest.
