07 - new year's dinner

After what happened on Christmas Eve, regarding Seola's hospitalization, I cut off all contacts from people, except Jenny. Three days after her stay in Jeju National University Hospital, she was transferred to Cheong A Hospital and nursed by me or Jenny. During that time, Minhyuk was the only one who visited her in the group. Never did once Doha came. I never heard him again as I was too tangled in the mess and felt exhausted by it.

In all of those times, there were nights where I couldn't fall asleep and there were nights where I simply couldn't forget. Whenever I saw Seola's body on the hospital bed, I ended up hating myself because I let it happen. Even if I never knew what really occurred that night, I was at fault. And I might always be until I found out the truth.

"Rona, why are you not getting ready? Don't you have to go to Chairman Shim's house today?"

The soothing sound of my mother's voice interrupted the daydream I had. She closed the door behind, then approached me, who sat on the windowsill and gazed at the fallen snow outside. "Are you okay? You have been quiet ever since Seola's being hospitalized. Do you have something that is bothering you?" she asked as her warm hand gently stroked my hair.

I leaned into the soft touch. Overwhelmed by her magic touch in calming me, I hugged her from the side. I mumbled, "Mom, do I have to go? I want to spend New Year with you."

"Mom feels the same way. But your dad already promised, Chairman Shim himself asked him to see you," she said. Releasing herself from the hug, she brushed my face and added, "Also, it's been a long time since you're out. You shouldn't lock yourself all the time, sweetie."

"I go to hospital almost everyday, though," I reasoned her.

Hearing me, my mother heaved a sigh. "That's different. Rona, are you going to keep this up? If Seola sees you, she'll scold you for mopping around like this. You need to be full of smiles to greet her when she's awake. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, hm?"

She looked at me with so much worry that I couldn't help but force a smile. On this happy day, I didn't want to let her down too with my problems. Even though she'd listen to me and give the best advice, the matter I thought of was still a speculation.

I still had to dig deeper, like getting Seola's medical record. Though it was pretty much very difficult to get, it was clearly falsified by Director Cheon. I needed to find the real one to clear my assumption on it. And the first step I had to do was to search for a trustworthy person I would ask for help.

But before that, I had to get through the dinner quietly today.

It was seven p.m. when Seokhoon stood on my doorstep. He was dressed formally with his navy blue blazer and black shirt. The color attire matched with my silver-buttoned tweed dress which was delivered to me yesterday by his grandmother. One of the unnecessary things the chairman's wife would do.

Casually walking in, his appearance in my house threw me back to the time we used to study together. Good old days if I should classify it. I learnt and improved a lot when we practiced daily thanks to him. He understood better about my lack in music and advised me. I could say that he was pretty much the strict and very perfectionist teacher because he's serious in what he was doing. Not that I wasn't, but he was more invested in the study.
