3.3 𝐵𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑟

TRAIN STATION

There's a long line of people in front of the train station.

"Quiet down! Get back!" A guard yells at them.

"What's going on? The ark leaves tonight, and we've been waiting in line for hours. For hours." A lady asks.

"Well, this looks fun." Loki's voice is dripping with sarcasm.

"Come on." Sylvie urges them.

"We can't fight our way onto that train." Loki defends.

"Why not?" Laverna asks but gets ignored.

"Who said anything about fighting?" Sylvie asks.

"All your plans involve fighting," Loki argues.

"Not this one. I'm going to enchant a guard, have him lead us through the crowd, and if anyone gives us any trouble..." Sylvie tries to make a plan.

"Make him start shooting? And then what, kill every guard and hijack the train?" Loki asks.

"Better idea." Sylvie turns around to Laverna.

"What?" She asks

She puts her hand on Laverna's head end it glows green with magic.

Laverna stands up straight and looks straight ahead with no emotion.

"What did you do?" Loki asks concerned.

"Enchant her," Sylvie answers simply.

He looks at her critically. "Okay, it wasn't me."

"What?" Now Loki is even more confused.

"Other people enchanted her so that when they say a specific string of words, she will do whatever they want. So, I reactivated them and told her to play our guard." Sylvie explains.

"Okay..." Loki tries his head to wrap around this information. "We're doing this one my way."

Loki shifts his outfit into a guard uniform. "How do I look?"

"Like someone with a shit plan."

"It's a great plan." Loki defends.

"Just follow my lead." He leads her forward. Laverna follows.

"Why can't we get on?" A woman asks.

"Let us in! Come on!" A man screams.

"To Shuroo? This way, sir." A guard speaks.

"Let us in! Women and children..." Another man pleads.

"They're only giving tickets out to the wealthy! What about us?" A woman complains.

The crowd continues shouting various insults and pleads.

The people in front of the three and their tickets to the guard who checks them and lets them on board.

Loki tries to continue onto the train.

"Whoa! Hey!" He stops them.

"Taking this one to Shuroo," Loki explains.

"Okay. And the tickets?" The guard asks.

"Orders come from the top to get her on this train." Loki tries to reason.

Laverna sees that the guard is about to talk to another guard. She takes a step towards him and looks him straight in the eyes.

Loki watches her curiously. He could have sworn for a split second he saw her eyes shimmer black.
