May 3, 1993

Stevie's surgery was scheduled for noon but she had to be there at eight for pre-op, and she was sitting in the bed waiting when her plastic surgeon and her OBGYN walk in and she cocks an eyebrow.

"Why is Dr. Carter here?" Stevie asks.

"We ran your labs Ms. Nicks, it's routine before any surgery and we discovered levels of HcG, in your blood." Her plastic surgeon tells her.

"What?"

"When was your last period?" Her surgeon asks.

"Um, ugh...April 5th." She sniffles.

"You're about four weeks pregnant...I'm assuming because you're so early that you haven't had any symptoms yet."

"None...None at all." Stevie shakes her head.

"Congratulations you're pregnant." Dr. Carter tells her.

"But my surgery will it..."

"We don't know....You're so early it might not affect it at all, or it could cause you to miscarry." Dr. Carter shrugs.

"So what do we do?"

"You can still go through with the surgery...we have to get that implants out because if you have this baby, if you go to breastfeed, it's going to poison your baby, the baby's development in utero could be affected because mom shares blood, and the silicone is in your blood. It could potentially cause the baby to have an autoimmune disease, or a nervous system disease. And if we do cause you to miscarry, you CAN still try again." Her surgeon tells her.

"What would you do?" She looks at Dr. Carter.

"I wouldn't go through with it...you can always formula feed, and get the removal after your baby is born...probably around mid January is when the baby will be here."

"Can I have like fifteen minutes to think about this?" Stevie gnaws on her lip.

"Of course."

When the doctors are gone Stevie looks down at her stomach and she just starts crying. She and Lindsey aren't on the best of terms. They still sleep in the same bed, live in the same house, but they haven't really talked, they haven't been all lovey lovey, and he wasn't with her and she hated it.

She sniffles as a knock comes at the door and one of the nurses peeps her head in. "I"m sorry, but a Mr. Lindsey Buckingham is here."

"He is?" She asks.

"He is..." The nurse nods.

"I want him." Stevie sniffles.

Lindsey appears in the door moments later and she just starts crying harder.

"Hey, Hey what's wrong?" Lindsey asks.

He was dressed in Jeans and a Teeshirt because he did in fact get the day off. Stevie just shakes her head in response and Lindsey sighs going over and wrapping his arms around her.

"What's the matter Angel?" He asks.

"I'm pregnant." She blurts.

"What?" He asks. He was honestly stunned because they were literally arguing about that, but the look on her face was making his heart beat a mile a minute.

"They say I'm probably four weeks pregnant because my pre-op blood work came back high for HCG and I gave them my last period date, the last time we had sex, and they said I'm probably about four weeks pregnant. If I have the surgery it could cause a miscarriage, or it might not, and I might be perfectly fine. If I don't have the surgery I can't breastfeed and the silicone is going to affect the baby." She cries.

"So it's a lose-lose." He sighs.

"It's a lose-lose and I don't know what to do." She sobs into his chest.

"Have the surgery..."

"What?"

"Is breast feeding important to you?"

"Yes."

"Don't you want a happy, and healthy baby."

"Of course I do."

"So have the surgery...if you miscarry that sucks and we'll talk about it then. But if you don't it'll be worth it won't it...so you can breast feed, so our baby is healthy."

"I guess."She nods.

"Alright, now dry those eyes. You're going to be okay...They're going to be okay..." Lindsey tells her.

"I can't gauge your reaction."

"I don't know Steph...I don't want another baby, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to love them any less...an accident Steph, never a mistake."

Once Lindsey finishes his speech more knocks are heard and Dr. Carter and her surgeon, Dr. Anderson walk in.

"So what did we decide?" Dr. Carter asks.

"Oh, Dr. Carter this is my partner Officer Lindsey Buckingham, Santa Monica PD...um, I'm going to do it...I'm going to have the surgery...but how will we know if the baby survives?"

"We're going to have you watch for bleeding, cramps, or the dislodging of a fetus...after your two week recovery time, if you haven't had any of that, then we'll do another pregnancy test. By six weeks, we can see the fetus on an ultrasound, we can't hear a heart but we can see it beating and we'll go from there." Dr. Carter shrugs.

"Okay." Stevie nods.

"So are you ready?" Dr. Anderson asks.

"I guess I have to be." Stevie shrugs.

Lindsey grabs her cheeks and kisses her, and then he pulls her into a tight hug and lets her go so they can wheel her away.

"I'll be waiting for you Angel."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

As Lindsey waited for her, he made his way to the nursery window. The babies in the window were sleeping peacefully and he sighed looking at them all. They required a lot of work and with the nature of Stevie's career, he was worried that this wasn't going to go over well. He and the girls had experienced one tour of hers and it was literal hell, because at the time they had only been living together for a few months but it was like in those few months their lives changed for the better.

Everyone was eating three solid square meals a day, the house was clean, laundry was being kept up and when she left it all went to shit. And it was hard for the girls not having 'mom' there, and they didn't even consider her their mother yet, he couldn't imagine what it would do to the baby that was growing in her belly, hell he didn't know what it was going to do to her. If she'd be able to be away from her baby for that long.
